Registered voters are encouraged to check the status of their registration and polling place at this site at least 30 days before an election. Local information can also be found at the websites listed on page 3. Voter Registration You must be registered to vote in Virginia. Voter registration is closed during the 21 days before a regularly scheduled election, 6 days before special elections for statewide offices and 13 days for others. Special elections are called to fill vacancies. You are eligible to register to vote if you are: • A citizen of the United States; • A resident of Virginia; • At least 18 years of age on or before the date of the next general election; • Have had your voting rights restored if convicted of a felony or judged mentally incapacitated. UPDATE: You can check to see if you are registered by calling your General Registrar or, preferably, by going online to Vote.Virginia.Gov, where you can also change your name or address. You do not have to re-register for each elec - tion. However, to remain a qualified voter, you must notify your General Registrar of any change in name or address in a timely manner. HOW and WHERE: To register online or download a voter registration applica- tion, visit Vote.Virginia.Gov. If you have a current Virginia driver’s license or ID issued by the DMV, you can complete and submit your registration online. Otherwise, you can download and print the registration application form from that website and take or mail it to your voter registration office. Voter Registra - tion Application forms are also available at your voter registration office, DMV offices, most public libraries and state and local government offices. See below for the address of your local Voter Registrar/Office of Elections.

WHEN: Voter Registration Applications are accepted year round. The deadline to register or update your information for general elections is the 22nd day before the election date. Applications arriving between the 22nd day before the election and Election Day will be processed after that election. Contact your General Registrar/Office of Elections for additional information. Voting: At the polls on Election Day • The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for all elections. • Voting information is available in Spanish, Vietnamese, and Korean in Fairfax County. • Check your current Voter Information letter from the elections office for your correct polling place. You may also check at Vote.Virginia.Gov, or call 703-222-0776, 24/7 and follow the prompts in Fairfax County, or 703-385-7890 in Fairfax City. • All polling sites offer “curbside voting” for voters at least 65 years of age or with a physical disability, and post the necessary precinct contact in - formation at the polling site entrance. • In Virginia, a photo ID is required by law to vote. A complete list of acceptable forms of ID is available at Vote.Virginia.Gov (photo ID). Reg - istered voters who do not have a valid ID, can apply for a free Virginia voter photo ID during working hours at any local voter registration or elections office throughout the year, and their local elections office on Election Day, by providing their name, date of birth, last four digits of their social security number and verifying their registration address. Voting: Before Election Day — Absentee Voting Virginia law does not allow what is called “early voting,” but registered voters who meet one of the 20 eligibility requirements may vote by absentee ballot. Call or visit the website of your local elections office for a list of the require- ments or visit Vote.Virginia.Gov (“Ways to Vote”) for complete information. There are special provisions for military, overseas voters and emergencies. BY MAIL: The application for an absentee ballot to be sent by mail can be sub - mitted online or downloaded from Vote.Virginia.Gov. You may also request an application by contacting your elections office by mail, fax, or email, or obtain one from local government offices and libraries. Applications may be submitted by mail, fax, email or online up to twelve months prior to an election, but must be received by your elections office no later than 5 p.m. on the seventh day prior to an election. Voted ballots must be received in the elections office by 7 p.m. on Election Day. IN PERSON: Registered County and City voters who meet the eligibility require - ments may apply for, and vote, an absentee ballot in person in their Office of Elections, during working hours, beginning 45 days before a general or primary election or, if a County resident, at designated satellite locations on a more lim - ited schedule.
