& EASTERN METRO SPCA MOBILE CLINIC PROJECT WWW.SANDTONSPCA.ORG.ZA OUR MOBILE CLINIC

The Mobile Clinic was launched in February 2010. This is a Nissan Interstar Panel Van which has been converted into a functioning mobile clinic for animals. The clinic has holding pens and an onboard refrigerator to house sensitive medication. There are examination counters and storage areas for all the equipment needed to provide basic veterinary care.

KEY OBJECTIVES

• To offer animal care services to low income persons / families/ pet owners who have no means of transport & are unable to

afford veterinary care.

• To provide mobile and qualified education to our community on animal welfare. Our staff and volunteers provide education to

the public on how to care for their dogs and cats through engagement, printed handouts and

demonstration.

• To focus on low income areas in our jurisdiction, mainly Alexandra and the south border of the south eastern metropolitan area,

including Bertrams, Malvern and Bez Valley. Pet owners from these areas can bring their pets to be vaccinated, de-wormed and

dipped at designated points in their community.

• To curbing the problem of unwanted animals through the mobile clinic we encourage people to sterilise their animals before

unplanned litters occur.

We approach Alexandra & schools to host a Mobile Clinic Day. Each class is visited before the Mobile Clinic Day to promote and explain the importance of the event. Dog owners throughout the community are invited to bring their dogs for de-worming, spraying against parasites and vaccinations (depending on funding). These events require the support of many volunteers and provide an opportunity for friends, work groups and other NGOs to engage with our community.

SANDTON & EASTERN METRO SPCA • WWW.SANDTONSPCA.ORG.ZA FUNDING

The Sandton & Eastern Metro SPCA is a registered NPO and a member of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA). Local SPCAs receive no government funding and no funding from the NSPCA. We rely solely on support from our community. We need R30 000 per month for fuel, vehi- cle maintenance, insurance, staffing, medication and equipment for our Mobile Clinic.

Ways that you can support our Mobile Clinic Programme:

• Sign a monthly debit order linked to our Mobile Clinic Outreach. • We offer packages to corporates who wish to use our Mobile Clinic Programme to get directly involved in communities. • Give educational materials, veterinary medicines, equipment, fuel, animal food, collars and leads or gifts for children who come to our Mobile Clinic. • Leave a bequest.

If you would like to become a sponsor, we would like to hear from you!
