Weekly Communication on the Sandton Policing Precinct's Crime Weekly communication on the Sandton policing precinct’s Crime Trends with Safety/Security recommendations. Content is produced through collaboration between the Sandton Community Police Forum and Sandton SAPS for the benefit of the Sandton community. This is not a formal Media Release, which is done separately through the SAPS Communication officer. We ask that our residents respect that distinction. Sandton Precinct Crime Trends - Period: 2015-06-05 to 2015-06-11 We appeal to the Sandton community, especially people driving luxury vehicles, to take extra care for their safety and well-being. It has been noticed that high value vehicles are being targeted and are correctly being identified as also wearing expensive jewelry. When returning home in your vehicle ensure that you are not being followed, and do not turn into your driveway whilst cars or pedestrians are in the vicinity, rather drive around the block or call your security company for a ‘tuck-in’ service if necessary. Ensure that you don’t exit your property by reversing. If you are a hostage in a robbery: o Maintain your calm o Don’t make eye contact o Always do as you are told o Never try to be a hero o Don’t make sudden movements that may aggravate the robbers o Where possible try to memorise the facial features of the robbers in order to provide the police with a detailed description o If possible, try and obtain details of their vehicle only if you can do so without endangering your life o Try and remember the direction of travel taken by the robber when leaving o Allow the robber ample time to leave ======================================================================================= SECTOR 1: (Edenburg; part-Gallo Manor; Khyber Rock; part-Morningside Manor; Rivonia; Sunninghill; Woodmead; Woodlands; Woodmead Retail Park;) Category: Vehicle related and burglary crimes were the main crimes committed in the Sector this week. • SANDTON SAPS ‐ WEEKLY CRIME TRENDS by SECTOR 2013‐03‐08 to 2013‐03‐14
SANDTON SAPS ‐ WEEKLY CRIME TRENDS BY SECTOR 2013‐03‐08 to 2013‐03‐14 Distributed through the Sandton Community Police Forum www.sandtoncpf.co.za Property crime is always a problem in the Sandton policing precinct and the community must take special care to protect themselves and their belongings. Historically these incidents can increase just prior to the Easter Holiday Season so be especially careful at this time. Theft out of motor vehicles remains a problem at many parking lots, shopping areas, schools, churches etc. Jamming devices are the cause of many of these incidents and the community must ensure their vehicles are locked by physically checking same, before walking away. Smash and Grabs can in the main be prevented by ensuring that your valuables are out of sight, preferably in your vehicle ‘boot’ area. Crime Hints: Be aware – take special care. • Criminals loiter in parking lots or sit in vehicles and over‐ride your ‘remote’ signal as you ‘click’ and casually walk away. You may think you’ve locked your car but it is still open. When you’re away items of value are swiftly removed. No broken glass, no forced entry and no insurance payout. • Store all items in your boot, but don’t pack away in full view of the criminals lurking in the parking lots. • Lock your car with your key, or if you must use electronic means – physically check the doors before leaving. • Prevent “Smash & Grabs” by keeping seats and floor clear of valuables when driving and by keeping all doors locked. • Keep your windows closed at intersections and don’t stop too close to the car in front – allow yourself some room to maneuver.

  • Alexandra Urban Renewal:- the All-Embracing Township Rejuvenation Programme
ALEXANDRA URBAN RENEWAL:- THE ALL-EMBRACING TOWNSHIP REJUVENATION PROGRAMME 1. Introduction and Background About the Alexandra Township The township of Alexandra is one of the densely populated black communities of South Africa reach in township culture embracing cultural diversity. This township is located about 12km (about 7.5 miles) north-east of the Johannesburg city centre and 3km (less than 2 miles) from up market suburbs of Kelvin, Wendywood and Sandton, the financial heart of Johannesburg. It borders the industrial areas of Wynberg, and is very close to the Limbro Business Park, where large parts of the city’s high-tech and service sector are based. It is also very near to Bruma Commercial Park and one of the hype shopping centres of Eastgate Shopping Centre. This township amongst the others has been the first stops for rural blacks entering the city in search for jobs, and being neighbours with the semi-industrial suburbs of Kew and Wynberg. Some 170 000 (2001 Census: 166 968) people live in this community, in an area of approximately two square kilometres. Alexandra extends over an area of 800 hectares (or 7.6 square kilometres) and it is divided by the Jukskei River. Two of the main feeder roads into Johannesburg, N3 and M1 pass through Alexandra. However, the opportunity to link Alexandra with commercial and industrial areas for some time has been low. Socially, Alexandra can be subdivided into three parts, with striking differences; Old Alexandra (west of the Jukskei River) being the poorest and most densely populated area, where housing is mainly in informal dwellings and hostels.
