We had our meeting on 12th April which was well attended. Before the meeting we had a short film show from the motorcycle section about their swap meet, some nice bikes shown. Being an old biker, it makes you think about getting another one but I’m going to resist the urge and stick to four wheels. It’s funny though, I’ve had bikes all my life and you never seem to get it out of your system. Some of us went on the mid-week run with Lloyd, he will cover that event. The following day Maxine and I went on the MG mid-week run with my MGB (my four wheeled motor- bike) it was a beautiful day with about 26 cars. The Austin Healey and the Jag club were involved, so a good selection of cars. They all give it some “welly” when out on the road though,( welly is a pomme say- ing for putting the boot in for those who don’t know) or going fast but not over the speed limit old chap. Everything I have at the moment is post vintage, except for the Hudson, however there is something in the wind – but…..watch this space. April 17th was the Shannons Classic car day at Whiteman Park. This is always a great day with loads of vehicles of all types to admire. As usual there were

plenty of vintage cars there and whilst there was some BYGONE SPARES AND RESTORATIONS rain about it didn’t deter the crowds. I understand that there were about 800 vehicles at the event. The variety, quality and pres- entation of all the cars was excellent so much so the organizing commit- tee has invited us to participate in next year’s event. The car that gets my vote for the day is the FE Holden shown pictured and is a really nice example of that particular model. I am not sure who the owner is but credit where it’s due – well done – it looks great. David and Yvonne Kin- near took their Series 1 Land Rover on its maiden voyage after recently completing its restoration. Thanks to all who participated on the day – it was well received by the local community. For those that thought you missed the working bee on April 23 and 24 when it was planned to clean and paint the outside of the club rooms, well you didn’t because it didn’t happen due to lack of member support. Les Checketts and Newton Powell arrived early ready and keen to get the job under way however by 9.30am and with little prospect of ad- ditional volunteers arriving any time soon, the decision was made to can the work and retire for an early morning tea of freshly baked scones and fruit loaf kindly provided by Jenny Sinclair who arrived in time to share the goods whereafter the premises were vacated. We have probably lost the opportunity to complete this work until after winter which, at the time of writing, is not far away. A much improved response is required from members when we have another shot at it. The next event on our calendar is the annual dinner to be held at the Denmark Tavern on South Coast Highway on Sunday June 26th starting at 12 noon. If you are going please can you advise Jenny Sinclair [98412652] of numbers by no later than May 22nd. We have been asked to all be seated at the tables allocated for us and to make it easier for catering, meal orders will be taken after everyone arrives and one table at a time.

That’s all for now. Graham Wright mailto:[email protected]
