Abstract Roskilde Festival is a music event attended every year by 130.000 people, providing a big opportunity for collecting spatio-temporal data of the participants, given its high population density (0,78 [pop./m2]). In the current researches, the data collection has been achieved by installing smartphones in the areas of interest, which can detect the Bluetooth device of the participants’ mobile phones. However, the installation of these smartphones requires a permanent access to a power supply, which can be difficult to guarantee due to infrastructure limitations. Considering that during the 10 days of the event 50% of the participants may carry a smartphone, we propose the use these devices to collect other participants’ data. This solution should reduce the energy required to detect other devices, due to the limited access to recharge the battery of their smartphones. In this work, we present the design, implementation and deployment of software for scanning Bluetooth devices. This software can be attached as a library to other applications intended for the festival, running as the background process. We designed an algorithm to reduce the energy used in the Bluetooth devices detection. Using this technique, we could collect the data of 2.4% of the participants of the festival, with a 60% of the concerts area scanned at least once.

© Lonely Planet Publications 16 Destination Denmark The Danes are, overwhelmingly, a happy bunch. In fact, if you believe those contentment surveys that come out every couple of years, Denmark is one of the happiest nations on earth with some of the best quality of life. It’s not hard to see why. Denmark’s hydrocarbon-rich economy is booming; it has the highest per capita GDP in the European Union (EU); literacy is 100%; unemployment is low; and its social-welfare pro- grammes are the envy of continents. Education is free, and about half of all Danish students who graduate from secondary school continue on to higher education. You don’t need statistics to understand the Dane’s happy lot, though. Stroll around Copenhagen or pretty much any Danish town and you’ll experience some of the most harmonious civic spaces anywhere. The capital’s intimate scale and faultless transport systems combine with the ornate history and bold modern lines of the built environment to delight the eye, while the locals’ courtesy and sense of humour is refreshing. Along winding cobbled streets Danes shop and dine at some of the most exciting places in Europe. Copenhagen’s restaurants have more Michelin stars than any other Scandinavian city, and Denmark as a whole FAST FACTS would doubtless have more still if the inspectors from Michelin ever troubled themselves to leave the capital. Even standards in a workaday Unified as a state: 10th Danish café are generally very high. century AD Denmark continues to stamp its effortlessly cool style on the world Population: 5.5 million with its furniture, fashion, architecture and graphic design, as it has done (July 2007) for the last half-century or so.
