Township High School District 211 Summer School 2019 Mission Statement “Township High School District 211 serves the educational needs of the community inspiring all students to successfully contribute to the world.” – Adopted by the Board of Education August, 2016 Introduction All students residing in High School District 211 may enroll in our tuition Summer School program. Summer School provides opportunities for students to improve academic skills and to explore new interests. It also enables incoming freshmen to become familiar with the high school routine. Online registration begins on April 15 at 7:00 a.m. for Conant, Hoffman Estates, and Schaumburg High Schools and April 17 at 7:00 a.m. for Palatine and Fremd High Schools. Please register early. Walk-in registration also is available (see page 3 for office hours.) Decisions to run most classes will be made by May 31. Class sizes must be limited, and classes will close when the limit is reached. Classes with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled.

Online payment is available for District 211 families by using the Infinite Campus Parent Portal found on your child’s home school website. Online payment can be made by credit card using Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. Parents desiring to complete registration online may do so by using the same username and password that has been previously provided. Walk-in and online registrations must adhere to deadlines as stated. Payment for walk-in registrations may be done by cash, check, or credit card. Transportation: Students who pay in person for transportation will receive a temporary bus pass upon payment at the school where they register. If payment for transportation is made online, parents will be notified via email when a bus route has been assigned. The student then needs to see their counselor to get a temporary bus pass. A permanent bus pass will be issued to eligible students on the first day of attendance. Fees: See the Summer School fee schedule below.

Township High School District 211 3 Academic Refund Policy Students may receive a 100% refund if they withdraw from a full-tuition academic course before the first class meeting. Students enrolled in Summer School may receive a partial refund for only the following reasons: • any long-term illness or injury causing withdrawal from Summer School. The refund request must be accompanied by a doctor’s verification of the medical condition causing withdrawal. • a death in the immediate family. ORIGINAL BUS PASS MUST BE SURRENDERED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A FULL TRANSPORTATION REFUND. Refund requests missing a bus pass will be delayed until the pass is returned. Food Service Options Breakfast, lunch, and à la carte options are available to all students attending Summer School. A complimentary breakfast will be available to all students before the start of school each morning. Additionally, Palatine and Schaumburg High Schools qualify for the USDA’s Seamless Summer meal program, which allows these schools to offer a free lunch to all students attending these high schools’ Summer School programs, as well as any child under the age of 18 in the community. More information on these programs can be found on the district’s webpage. Fremd and Conant High School will offer a complete lunch daily for $3.00. All lunch meals include an entrée, servings of fruits and vegetables, and milk. A la carte offerings in the cafeteria and vending machines also will be available. If your child is new to District 211 this summer, an application for the free and reduced meal program for school year 2018-2019 is accessible online at http://adc.d211.org/page/6669 or a hardcopy is available at each school. Please remember that a new application will need to be completed prior to the 2019-2020 school year. This new application will be available in mid-July. District 211 students attending Summer School will have access to their food service prepayment accounts. Students may make a payment in the cafeteria using cash. Deposits to prepayment accounts can be made using cash or check payments only during Summer School. Online credit card payments will not be accepted during Summer School and will resume prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year. If you have any questions about the food service options available to your child, please call the Food & Nutrition Services Department at 847-755-6681. District transportation is not provided for afternoon classes. The fee is $35 for one semester, $70 for both semesters. Because of irregular schedules, students in driver education classes may not be able to benefit from bus service. Students will learn the basics of drawing, color, and design through a variety of projects and materials. Students will begin to learn key concepts and basic skills involving digital photography and imaging, digital illustration/vector, graphic design, raster/ bitmap imagery, virtual worlds, motion graphics, and game design. Lessons will be geared towards learning tool and technique basics using industry standard software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, and Unity as students investigate the essentials of interactive media. Township High School District 211 7 Business Education B952 Online Keyboarding Levels: All 1/4 unit of credit Online Keyboarding is a six-week course delivered online via the Internet, email, and five two-hour face to face meetings with the instructor. You will need reliable Internet access with a standard keyboard. Students will learn to key the alphabetic keys by touch (without looking at the keyboard) to increase speed and accuracy. NOTE: You will be required to attend five sessions with your teacher throughout the six-week period. Please enroll in this course only if you can attend all five sessions. No transporation will be provided for this afternoon class. Both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction are offered. Seats are limited in all sections. Early registration for this course is essential. Only residents of High School District 211 are eligible for this course. Those who do not attend a District 211 high school during the regular school year must register at the G.A. Township High School District 211 9 Health Education P242 Health Education Levels: 3,4 1/2 unit of credit Health Education is a required course for graduation by the Illinois State Board of Education. The course provides students with current health information that discusses physical, mental, emotional, and social health issues. Emphasis is given to the development of healthy lifestyles which will provide students with the opportunity to achieve their full potential as human beings. All Schools –– 1st or 2nd Semester Hoffman Estates High School classes will be held at Schaumburg High School Mathematics M114 Algebra I Level: 2 1/2 or 1 unit of credit This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of algebra. An overview of plane and solid geometry is presented through geometric constructions, measurement formulas, and limited writing of formal proofs. It is based on the axioms and theorems that relate points, line, planes, and solids. Algebraic techniques are integrated into the solution of many geometric problems. Prerequisite: M117 Algebra 1 (A,B,C) or acceptable performance on algebra examinations is required. The topics include methods of solving equations and inequalities, graphing techniques, and logarithms. A graphing calculator is required. Prerequisite: Previous enrollment in M314. Note: This course is for credit replacement only. Sophomores and juniors who enroll in this course during Summer School must continue their study of mathematics to continue their preparation for college and career readiness. The ideas presented involve advanced techniques of graphing, methods of solving equations and inequalities, and functions. Students are prepared to begin their study of pre-calculus. This course requires a graphing calculator. Prerequisite: Previous enrollment in M317. Note: This course is for credit replacement only. Sophomores and juniors who enroll in this course during Summer School must continue their study of mathematics to continue their preparation for college and career readiness. Prerequisites for Semester 1: Department chair or teacher recommendation. The second semester of this course covers limits, derivatives, and applications of derivatives in preparation for Advanced Placement Calculus coursework in the fall. Second semester requires a graphing calculator. Students enrolled in this class during second semester Summer School must be recommended to be enrolled in M449 or M479 for the fall. Final placement will be determined by their Summer School teacher. Prerequisites for Semester 2: M408, M417, M438 (1st semester), and department chair approval.
