WNDY-TV23 is now being transmitted from a different location. It is necessary to re-scan each of your sets connected to an (MHz): 186 – 192 RF Channel 9.

New Location: near 79th Street and Michigan Road. New Transmitter Coordinates: 39° 53' 25.00" N Latitude (NAD 83) 39.890278 86° 12' 20.00" W Longitude (NAD 83) -86.205556

The attached map shows the location of the new transmission location. As a general guideline, you can point your antenna in the direction of St. Vincent’s Hospital or the Pyramids. (The previous location was 10 miles north of Noblesville.)

WNDY previously transmitted on a UHF channel. It is now on a VHF Channel. Your antenna must be a combination UHF and VHF antenna to receive WNDY, WISH-TV, and other Central Indiana television stations. An outside antenna or one inside your attic is preferable to an indoor antenna. If you have an indoor combination UHF/VHF antenna, it often has “rabbit ears” and a . It is the “rabbit ears” portion of the antenna that should be used to adjust for best reception of WNDY and WISH-TV. The loop portion of the antenna is for UHF stations.

If you were already receiving WISH-TV (8.1, 8.2 and 8.3), then a simple re-scan will allow you to receive WNDY 23.1 MyNetwork and 23.2 Bounce. There has been no change in the strength of WISH-TV’s . If you were receiving WISH-TV before, then a simple re-scan will provide reception of WNDY 23.1 and 23.2. If you were unable to receive WISH-TV previously, then you will not be able to receive WNDY now. If you were only able to view WISH-TV on 23.3, then that station is now off the air permanently due to FCC Channel Share procedures.

If you live well north of Indianapolis and received WNDY, it will now be more difficult to receive WNDY. If you were a frequent viewer of White Sox and Cubs games on 23.1 and 23.3; you must be able to pick up WNDY from the new location farther south to receive those games.

You must re-scan your television to receive WNDY 23.1 and 23.2. Every manufacturer has different instructions on how to re-scan the set for new channels. We cannot provide specific detailed instructions for every set make and model. Typically, the “menu” button on the remote control is the place to start. If you have the owner’s manual available, refer to that. You may be able to locate an owner’s manual on the at the site of your television set manufacturer.

Typically, the menu will give you a choice of items. Look for terms like “settings” or “antenna” or “auto program” or auto scan or “channel set-up.” Make sure you select “Air” to scan and not “Cable.”

Every time you adjust the position of your antenna, it will be necessary to re-scan your set to receive WNDY and WISH-TV. This can be very time consuming and frustrating.

If you live within 15-miles or so of the new transmitter location do not be surprised or confused if you pick up two 8.1s, two 8.2s, two 8.3s, two 23.1s and two 23.2s. You are also receiving our lower power transmitter which duplicates the transmission of our primary WISH-TV / WNDY transmitter.

The only possible solution is a better combination UHF/VHF antenna, preferably located outside. It is always best if you can locate your antenna outside. As directed by Congress in Section 207 of the Act of 1996, the Federal Communications Commission adopted the Over-the-Air Reception Devices (“OTARD”) rule. You can erect an antenna up to 12’ above your home’s roofline, and this FCC rule supersedes the authority of Homeowner’s Associations to enforce such rules prohibiting an outside antenna or to require approval to erect such a .
