Patterns of species richness are described for 50 cacti and (e) pereskioid cacti. Columnar species have columnar, 109 globose and 50 opuntioid cacti species in 318 column-like stems with ribs, formed by an arrangement grid cells (1°×1°) covering Argentina. New names noted after the issue for the relevant year has gone to press are included in later issues. Specialist periodical literature is scanned in full (as available at the libraries at ZSS and Z or received by the compilers). Also included is information supplied to the compilers direct. It is urgently requested that any reprints of papers not published in readily available botanical literature be sent to the compilers. — Validly published names are given in bold face type, accompanied by an indication of the nomenclatu- ral type (name or specimen dependent on rank), followed by the herbarium acronyms of the herbaria where the holotype and possible isotypes are said to be deposited (first acronym for holotype), accord- ing to Index Herbariorum, ed. 8 and supplements as published in Taxon. Invalid, illegitimate, or incor- rect names are given in italic type face. In either case a full bibliographic reference is given. For new combinations, the basionym is also listed. These were all young plants and at that time I had never even seen a plant of either of these genera in flower anywhere. I did have a few duplicates, but some of those with similar labels appeared to me to be quite different species, and others with different labels seemed to be very similar looking plants. Quite a few plants were purchased as grafts but I aim to get them on to their own roots fairly promptly. In 1967 I began to acquire the odd imported plant and I also had a visit to Holland that year. The exciting part of the trip was the visit to Wouters (it took me an hour to find his place — I got to the nursery just across the road and I did not find anything of interest to me there and nearly gave up for the day). We spent some time looking at his collection — did I know Copiapoa this? or Copiapoa that? Just a minute, this is what it looks like in flower! I came away with a number of grafted plants — all excellent stuff. There were by now only about 18 or so described Copiapoa species that I did not have and I came to the conclusion that there was so much confusion over the species names that my best policy was to collect and grow the plants until I had sufficient material of reasonable age. -

Nat. Croat. Vol. 27, No. 2, 407- 420*, 2018, Zagreb. In this paper, the plant lists of glasshouse succulents grown in the Botanical Garden from 1895 to 2017 are studied. Synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material were sorted. The lists of species grown in the last 122 years are constructed in such a way as to show that throughout that period at least 1423 taxa of succulent plants from 254 genera and 17 families inhabited the Garden’s cold glass- house collection. Rezultati pokazuju kako je tijekom 122 godine kroz zbirku mesnatica hladnog staklenika prošlo najmanje 1423 svojti iz 254 rodova i 17 porodica. -

Peru: Discovery of Wonders‐ Gregg DeChirico Gregg DeChirico has grown plants of all types for over 30 years. He has a nursery, Gregg’s Greenhouse, located in the Santa Barbara area and specializing in seed-grown rare and exotic plants. Gregg is a frequent participant and vendor at many local club shows and sales. He has travelled throughout Latin America to photograph the flora and fauna. He has served as president of both the San Francisco Succulent & Cactus Society and Santa Barbara Cactus & Succulent Society and most recently has been elected to the CSSA board. Peru: Discovery of Wonders--a travelogue starting in arid coastal Northern Peru, heading south and traversing the Andes three times before ending in Peru’s southern highlands. Our zig-zagging journey takes us through cactus gardens in the lush hills and valleys of Amazonia and Cajamarca, then west to the seemingly barren pacific coast where life teems on offshore islands. -

Srinivasan Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India *Corresponding author ABSTRACT In cacti, grafting has become a commercial method of propagation to accelerate and hasten the growth rate of slow growing species, to ensure the survival of the plants with poor root system, to ensure the survival of genetic aberration of variegated and brightly coloured K e yw or ds cacti that lack chlorophyll, to accelerate the growth of plants for commercial use. With the above futuristic background, the present study on ornamental cacti grafting with all Cacti, Compatibility , possible combinations of two species of rootstocks (Hylocereus triangularis and Grafting , Myrtillocactus geometrizans) and five species of scions (Mammillaria beneckei, Intergeneric , Hamatocactus setispinu, Ferocactus latispinus, Echinopsis mamillosa and Gymnocalycium Ornamental mihanovichii) was carried out during 2017-18 at the Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India to assess the Article Info compatibility of grafted ornamental cacti and its performance. Among the graft combinations, the success and survival percentage were found to be maximum in graft Accepted: with Hylocereus triangularis as stock and Echinopsis mamillosa as scion (90 % and 15 October 2020 100%) whereas it was maximum with Myrtillocactus geometrizans as stock and Available Online: 10 November 2020 Hamatocactus setispinus as scion (96 % and 100%). -

REDACTIONEEL Henk Viscaal Wat bezielt een mens om zich met de regelmaat van de klok zuchtend en steunend achter een computer te hijsen, een aantal artikelen in een stramienpagina te plaatsen, een hoeveelheid foto’s te bewerken, die nadien ook in diezelfde pagina te plaatsen, ten- slotte van het geheel een PDF-file te maken en deze in te branden op een CD en deze naar de drukkerij te sturen. En dan, als klap op de vuurpijl beweren dat het een leuke bezigheid was. Het belangrijkste moment breekt aan wanneer het kant en klare tijdschrift door de post bezorgd wordt. Razendsnel de plastic hoes verwijderen (ik heb altijd ruzie met die dingen omdat ik waarschijnlijk te ongeduldig ben) en naar het uiteindelijke resultaat kijken. Sommige afbeeldingen zijn precies zo van de pers gekomen zoals ik het me voorge- steld had, terwijl andere afbeeldingen toch weer wat tegenvallen. We moeten toch maar weer eens een aantal handvatten aanreiken voor de fotografen onder ons om betere re- sultaten te boeken. Bekijk ik echter de cactustijdschriften waar ik op geabonneerd ben, dan bekruipt mij soms een bepaald gevoel van trots wanneer ik dit werk vergelijk met wat ik zelf gewrocht heb. Maar ook hier valt of staat het geheel met de kwaliteit van de afbeeldingen, oftewel, hoe goed of minder goed was de fotograaf. Bij opnames op de vindplaats van cactussen en vetplanten ben je vaak, door een (te) strak tijdschema, overgeleverd aan de op dat moment heersende lichtomstandigheden. Een beroepsfotograaf kan, om een opdracht uit te voeren, op een bepaalde plek wachten tot de voor hem meest gunstige lichtomstan- digheden om te fotograferen zijn aangebroken.
