Today, emissions from a modern heavy truck issues back in 1972. In that year, the United Nations held a are only a fraction of what they were ten years ago. In 1989, Volvo appointed an internal environmental atten- dant, who inspects the company’s facilities all over the world. The goal is to fulfill and even do better than all envi- ronmental rules prescribe. In 1991, Volvo presented a unique database on chemi- cals called Motiv. It contains a list of 4000 chemicals, sort- ed by the degree of danger. The use of several of these chemicals is now illegal and they have therefore been replaced by more environmentally sound alternatives. In many countries, introduction of similar classifications is being discussed. In 1995, Volvo revealed their environmentally optimized ECT (Environmental Concept Truck), which got great atten- tion all over the world. The truck runs on hybrid power, so that one can drive without emission in vulnerable areas. It is based on a gas turbine with an integrated high speed gen- erator and an electrical engine driven by nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries. Other innovative environmental friendly technologies include aerodynamic design and the use of recyclable materials.

60 Volvo has the technology to make green fuels COMPANY PRESENTATION No matter what fuels might enter the market in the future Volvo Trucks is prepared and has the necessary technology in place. The company has proven this by being the first truck manufacturer in the world that can present seven trucks, which have all been built to drive on non fossil fuel. The possibility of having CO2 neutral transportation is not limited by technology, but rather by the lack of accessibility

of alternative fuels. Volvo

Second generation of biofuels Volvo sees a significant potential in the second generation of biofuels. They have been produced by gasification of bio- mass, which gives a wide range of flexibility in that many kinds of raw fuel can be used to make many different fuels. Furthermore, the accessibility of raw fuels for gasification is far greater than the accessibility of soya-bean oil and rape seed oil, which is used to make biodiesel (FAME) today. For example, synthetic diesel, methanol, biogas and DME (dimethylether) can all be produced by gasification.

- reduce your carbon foot print

You know it all too well! Modern society’s energy consumption and consequently emission of CO2 leads to a greenhouse effect. However, what you may not be aware of is that the even minor choices we make in our everyday lives may influence CO2 emissions in a positive way, and that this has greater effect than you might think.

Every time you take the train instead of the car or the plane, you are actively contributing to reducing CO2 emissions. For instance, if you take the regional train instead of the car on a daily commuter trip of 20 kilometres each way, you save approx. 1 tonne of CO2 in a year. And if you commute longer than that, you save even more.

Reduce your CO emission now. Eurotec West A/S, Gunnar Clausenvej 11, 8260 Viby J, +4586721422, www.eurotec.dk Eurotec West A/S is a company with extensive experience in building CHP plants on natural gas. In connection with the demands for more use of renewable energy from various biomasses, the company has co-operated with the consulting engineering company Carl Bro A/S, among others, about the development and application for a patent on a hydrolyse system that result in a larger part of the biomasses being converted into methane gas than with traditional plants. A selective hydrolyse system can be implemented into an already existing biogas plant / municipal sewage treatment plant or it can be part of a new plant. Hydrolyse has a significant effect on for example slurry from farming and sludge from sewage treatment plant. With the hydrolysis process, it is possible to extract a large part of the ammonia, which result in less leaching of nitrogen into nature in connection with distribution on the fields. Eurotec West A/S handles the sale of the WESTCOME heat exchangers, which has been designed especially for treatment of sludge / slurry, but also other corrosion- aggressive substances as well as substances where the temperature are high and where there is a demand for higher pressure than usually.

Green Farm Energy A/S af 2. juli 2004, Løjstrupvej 12a, 8870 Langå, +4570252755 Green Farm Energy (GFE) has developed and put in practice an overall solution on treatment and utilization of waste products from industry and agriculture. The GFE-Concept is based on a unique pre-treatment and nitrogen stripping technology that is world wide protected by patent. The GFE solution comply in with the demands from politicians and the wishes from industry and agriculture on sustainability and feasible production by processing solid and liquid organic waste in to environ-mental and CO2 neutral energy resources. The size of a GFE plant can be adapted to the availability of organic waste and bio masse and be profitable with 1.4 MWel + 1.7 MWheat output as a minimum. If post-treatment by separation is added then the GFE-Concept offers an optimal solution on recovery and recirculation of nutrients back to the soil and in this way use of chemical fertilizer is reduced or avoided. This makes the GFE-Concept unique and when integrated in an overall plan on local level it will as a “core piece in domino“ opens up for “ Waste to Resource” solutions including waste handling and utilization, sewage treatment, wood waste, straw and bio masse. Vestas Wind Systems A/S, Alsvej 21, 8900 , +4597300000, www.vestas.dk Vestas is the world leader in delivering wind power systems. In 25 years, we have installed over 33,500 wind turbines on five continents - and we install a new turbine every 5 hours. In fact, Vestas turbines generate more than 50 million MWh a year or enough power to supply millions of households – thereby saving the environment for 30 million tons of CO2 every year.As wind is an inexhaustible, free and clean source of energy, and as a fully operational wind power plant can be established in as little as 18 months, there is every reason to refer to wind power as Modern Energy. That is why Vestas is No. 1 in Modern Energy. CO2 emissions at Vestas stem primarily from purchased electricity, district heating, oil and gas for heating of buildings and fuel used by company vehicles. The figures from these energy sources are converted into CO2 equivalents using standard conversion factors and accounted for in our annual reporting. See presentation page 58-59

Danisco, Langebrogade 1, 1001 Copenhagen K, +4532662000, www.danisco.com Danisco – a company that embraces an extensive range of ingredients for industrially produced food, not to mention sustainable energy, detergents, textiles, plastics and many other consumer products across the world. Producing food ingredients and sugar may sound relatively simple, but ingredients are not just additives used in the production of bread, ice cream, cheese or yoghurt. They represent worldwide research at the highest level – research that only recently discovered one of nature’s basic principles, presenting new perspectives far beyond the food industry. Danisco is a world-leading biotechnology company with a research staff of approximately 1,000 working in laboratories in China, Denmark, France, the USA and elsewhere and a research budget close to DKK 1 billion. In Denmark alone, the laboratory facilities are so large that they resembles a small food university. Our almost 9,700 employees are located in more than 40 countries. This gives us an excellent overview of our global markets – essential knowledge when competing successfully for industrial customers and consumers who require exciting, new products in countries as diverse as Australia, Brazil, China and Germany. Because of it, we know how an ice cream is supposed to melt whether in Sweden or in India and how toast should crumble in the UK and the USA. See presentation page 36-37

Grundfos A/S, Poul Due Jensens Vej 7, 8850 Bjerringbro, +4587505050, www.grundfos.dk Grundfos: sustainability through innovation. The Grundfos Group, based in Denmark, is a global market leader within the pump industry. In 2006, turnover reached EUR 2.06 billion, with a profit before tax of EUR 198 million. The Grundfos Group employs approximately 14,800 persons in 75 companies in 42 countries worldwide. Production exceeds 14 million pump units annually. Grundfos solutions are employed in NOx emission reduction, biological wastewater treatment, heating, water supply, wastewater, air conditioning, dosing, pressure boosting, and fire fighting. We take our global responsibility for the environment very seriously, working to create sustainable solutions that make the world a better place to live. We do so with our three core values of Be responsible-Think ahead-Innovate at the heart of all we do. We’re committed to staying at the forefront of technological development, investing more than 4.5% of our annual turnover in R&D to constantly introduce innovative product solutions. Grundfos pioneered energy-labelling for circulator pumps similar to that known from refrigerators and light bulbs. Grundfos also launched one of the world’s first A-labelled circulator, and has a wide portfolio of them available today. This allows consumers to cut their power bills while contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions. See presentation page 50-51

From 2008, DSB will receive all electricity from wind and water power, and when the IC4 diesel train sets are introduced into service, the company’s CO2 emissions will be further reduced. DSB has committed itself to reducing its power consumption by 10 per cent in the period from 2007 to 2010. Furthermore, DSB is taking part in the Danish Environmental Protection Agency’s campaign “1 tonne less”, which seeks to convince Danes to reduce CO2 emissions by 1 tonne on an individual basis through environmentally correct behaviour. The back bone of DSB’s long-distance train services consist of our electrical IR4 train sets, the Øresund train sets and the IC3 diesel train sets. All types of trains are maintained at our own workshops. The long- distance and regional trains account for 66 million journeys a year, while the urban railway services in Greater Copenhagen Area and Stockholm account for 100 million journeys a year.

Municipality of Copenhagen, City Hall, 1599 Copenhagen V, +4533663366, www.kk.dk In 2015 Copenhagen will be justifiably famous as the capital city in the world with the besturban environment. It will have become the Eco- metropole of the world, thus demonstrating that environmental concern adds an extra dynamic to urban development. Copenhageners and visiting guests will be able to see and appreciate the improvements, while at the same time the city will be sharing active responsibility for global environmental development. Our vision has four themes for Eco-metropole Copenhagen: 1) World’s best city for cycles 2) Centre for world climate policy 3) A green and blue capital city 4) A clean and healthy major city. The Municipality of Copenhagen will lead the way but without active input from the citizens and business sector, it will be impossible to achieve our vision. For this reason, we will involve the citizens and business sector in our environmental policy in such a way as to make it easier and more attractive to to engage with the environment on a daily basis. We will look beyond our municipal borders. Copenhagen will increasingly influence national and international agendas. We will work to ensure that challenges and barriers the municipality cannot overcome alone will be debated in the Danish Parliament, EU, UN and other national and international fora. This is necessary not only for the environment in Copenhagen but also for the global environment. See presentation page 32-33
