Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far. No real news has been reported since #4, but this installment is packed with all of your posts and by excellent submissions from Bill Jones and Lennart. As for me, well, I've been VERY busy in my personal life, so any sarcastic observations will be pushed to next week. :) Also, soon we are going to have a POLL in CTC, so if you have any suggestions for format, let us know. Otherwise, Damien and Bill will probably put something together. Also, feel free to respond to anything in here, or feel free to talk about which Glenn Hughes music is your favorite, least favorite, etc. Discussion is what we are about! I myself need to start some debates in here. I still don't plan on letting that Seventh Star discussion slip past so easily. :) Well, enough of my yakin'. Can we or the DPAS get >that started? and what about the Last Concert In Japan sessions? > Simon Robinson has located the tapes "Made in Europe" was assembled (read: edited) from, so at least ONE CD with a complete set MIGHT be possible, I don't know if there are any plans for it. I'm afraid you're pretty much in a minority regardig this as Purple's best live album - even most Mk III fans seem to prefer "Live in London". Which incidentally MIGHT be out complete as a 2CD set later on, with the 30 minute set closer "Space Truckin'" added. (Having said that, judging from the "Cal Jam" video, Mk 3's version of "Space Truckin'" was really going nowhere at all anyway, so I personally feel this is unneccessary.) The "Last Concert in Japan" sessions had better be forgotten, but there's good news coming from the Swedish DPAS mag "Deep Purple Forever"; The Long Beach 1976 ("Foxbat") tapes will finally be released in April, with added bonus tracks from other concerts from that tour! This must be stuff Simon has licensed during his work with the Tommy Bolin "Missing over a raging ocean" CDs. Out on RPM Records, UK. (Perhaps this IS vol 2 of "Missing over a raging ocean"?! Vol. 1 should finally be out THIS week, btw - it seems like RPM sent advance notice to record shops before all contracts were signed, that's why the set has been so much delayed. DPAS fans also take notice that Darker Than Blue No. 47 is right around the corner.) > P.S. Does anyone know who or what the G on 'Owed To G' stands for? 'G' stands for Gershwin - the composer. >That song and this time around are credited to Bolin/Lord/Hughes in Come >Taste The Band and to Bolin/Paice/Hughes on BJL which is correct?? Wow, this sort of "day to day" news on the sessions is extremely interesting and exciting! Thanks again for keeping us informed, Bill! So, are you enjoying your time out in California, and was it an easy transition for you to make? :) > Glenn has signed with Zero Records in Japan Is there still talk about a possible deal in the United States? > it looks like a deal is close to being signed to see last year's live > album released in the states Really? What about _From Now On..._ then? It would seem odd to release the live album here and not that, since the live album is more of a "retro" thing with all the Deep Purple tunes. :) What label are we talking about here? > and, of course, Play Me Out has now been released here with four > additional tracks (two from `78 and two from last year according to Glenn). Is this out here in the USA?! If so, I haven't seen it, and I'm usually very up on these types of things. :) I know this is due to be released on RPM out of England in the next week or two... -Damien- -END- From: Damien DeSimone <[email protected]> Subject: CTC: George Naftos/Jeff Scott Soto In CTC #4, Bill Hibbler wrote: > The correct name for Glenn's new guitarist for the tour is George Naftos. If possible, Bill, could we get a little background on him? I've never heard of him before. Also, I spoke with Jeff Scott Soto on 2/27, and he said that he'd probably be singing some backing vocals on Glenn's album. Apparently Glenn got in touch with him about this recently, and he told Jeff that he could probably come down to the studio in around three weeks. Can you tell us anything further about this? Along with Glenn, Jeff Scott Soto is also one of my favorite singers, so his involvement on Glenn's album would make it that much more exciting to me! ". • Jon Lord June 9 1941 – July 16 2012
Jon Lord June 9 1941 – July 16 2012 Founder member of Deep Purple, Jon Lord was born in Leicester. He began playing piano aged 6, studying classical music until leaving school at 17 to become a Solicitor’s clerk. Initially leaning towards the theatre, Jon moved to London in 1960 and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, winning a scholarship, and paying for food and lodgings by performing in pubs. In 1963 he broke away from the school with a group of teachers and other students to form the pioneering London Drama Centre. A year later, Jon “found himself“ in an R and B band called The Artwoods (fronted by Ronnie Wood’s brother, Art) where he remained until the summer of 1967. During this period, Jon became a much sought after session musician recording with the likes of Elton John, John Mayall, David Bowie, Jeff Beck and The Kinks (eg 'You Really Got Me'). In December 1967, Jon met guitarist Richie Blackmore and by early 1968 the pair had formed Deep Purple. The band would pioneer hard rock and go on to sell more than 100 million albums, play live to more than 10 million people, and were recognized in 1972 by The Guinness Book of World Records as “the loudest group in the world”. Deep Purple’s debut LP “Shades of Deep Purple” (1968) generated the American Top 5 smash hit “Hush”. In 1969, singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover joined and the band’s sound became heaver and more aggressive on “Deep Purple in Rock” (1970), where Jon developed a groundbreaking new way of amplifying the sound of the Hammond organ to match the distinctive sound of the electric guitar.

  • THE JOHN BYRNE BAND the John Byrne Band Is Led by Dublin Native and Philadelphia-Based John Byrne
THE JOHN BYRNE BAND The John Byrne Band is led by Dublin native and Philadelphia-based John Byrne. Their debut album, After the Wake, was released to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic in 2011. With influences ranging from Tom Waits to Planxty, John’s songwriting honors and expands upon the musical and lyrical traditions of his native and adopted homes. John and the band followed up After the Wake in early 2013 with an album of Celtic and American traditional tunes. The album, Celtic/Folk, pushed the band on to the FolkDJ Charts, reaching number 36 in May 2015. Their third release, another collection of John Byrne originals, entitled “The Immigrant and the Orphan”, was released in Sept 2015. The album, once again, draws heavily on John’s love of Americana and Celtic Folk music and with the support of DJs around the country entered the FolkDJ Charts at number 40. Critics have called it “..a powerful, deeply moving work that will stay with you long after you have heard it” (Michael Tearson-Sing Out); “The Vibe of it (The Immigrant and the Orphan) is, at once, as rough as rock and as elegant as a calm ocean..each song on this album carries an honesty, integrity and quiet passion that will draw you into its world for years to come” (Terry Roland – No Depression); “If any element of Celtic, Americana or Indie-Folk is your thing, then this album is an absolute yes” (Beehive Candy); “It’s a gorgeous, nostalgic record filled with themes of loss, hope, history and lost loves; everything that tugs at your soul and spills your blood and guts…The Immigrant and the Orphan scorches the earth and emerges tough as nails” (Jane Roser – That Music Mag) The album was released to a sold-out crowd at the storied World Café Live in Philadelphia and 2 weeks later to a sold-out crowd at the Mercantile in Dublin, Ireland.

  • “Classic Deep Purple Live” Performed by Glen Hughes Keswick Theatre Friday, September 7
“CLASSIC DEEP PURPLE LIVE” PERFORMED BY GLEN HUGHES KESWICK THEATRE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 Glenn Hughes, former bassist and singer of Deep Purple, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock’, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the current front man for rock super group Black Country Communion is pleased to announce that he will be performing Deep Purple only material with his “CLASSIC DEEP PURPLE LIVE” at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA on Friday, September 7. The tour promises to be dynamic, a turn-back-the-clocks, two-hour live extravaganza homage to his tenure in MK 3 and MK 4 incarnations of Deep Purple - one of music history’s most seminal and influential rock and roll groups. "I'm excited to be touring the “Classic Deep Purple Live” in the US this year. I first toured Classic Deep Purple Live in Australia and New Zealand last year and it went down like a storm. We’re also touring the show throughout South America and international festivals throughout the summer. By the time we tour the US, then the UK in October, we’ll be on fire.” As well as Glenn on lead vocals and bass guitar, the touring band also features Soren Anderson (guitar), Jesper Bo Hansen (keyboards) and Fer Escobedo (drums) Deep Purple took a quantum leap when the then 20-year-old Glenn Hughes was seconded from British funk-rock outfit Trapeze in mid-1973. As bassist and co-vocalist (with David Coverdale), he helped steer the legendary rock group in the progressive direction of Burn (1974), Stormbringer (1974) and Come Taste the Band (1975), while touring the world for three years.

DEF LEPPARD – 02. Also, im Auge behalten.

One of the most glorious launches in history, the title track for the thrice-platinum The Final Countdown is so bombastically brilliant, such glorious garbage, that this nuclear hair assault could only spew from the vacuous '80s. But the full-tilt follow-up "Rock the Night" rules also: "You know it ain't easy/Running out of thrills." "Carrie" comes off a consummate butane ballad. Meanwhile, the rest of the disc packs so much power that Swedish superheroes Europe get away with all the processed pretension. In fact, the lofty ambition of "Danger on the Track," "Ninja," and "Cherokee" (each as tasty as its title) combines with heated drive and hot delivery to meld The Final Countdown into a unique portrait of propulsive prog and a worthy addition to any hard rock collection. This is the story; this is the legend told by Teutonic guitars and predictable keyboards ringing pure and hurtling through each and every convention perfectly. The quintet's big-boy Epic inaugural, The Final Countdown deftly combines the Valhalla victory of Europe's heroic debut with the American poodle pomposity that devoured the band. You could live without The Final Countdown, but why? © Doug Stone /TiVo. Europe (2) Hair / Glam Metal (Heavy Metal) band from Upplands Väsby, Stockholm, (Sweden). Europe formed in 1979.
