HERMAN For Immediate Release Maryland PSC Schedules Public Hearing for Massey Solar Project in Kent County (BALTIMORE, MD-February 20, 2018) – The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold the first of two public comment hearings on the application of Massey Solar, LLC to construct a 5.0 MW solar generating facility in Kent County, Maryland. The hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 32940 Maryland Line Road in Massey, Maryland. Members of the public who wish to comment on the matter are welcome to attend the hearing before Public Utility Law Judge Ryan C. McLean. A second public hearing will be during the week of April 16, 2018, at a time and location to be determined. According to the application, the solar facility will be constructed on a 55-acre parcel at the intersection of Maryland Route 299 (Massey Road) and Maryland Route 313 in Massey. Copies of the application are available for public inspection and copying at Davis, Moore, Shearon & Associates, 207 E. Water Street, Suite 100, Centreville, Maryland 21617. County Council of Dorchester County Regular Meeting Minutes November 5, 2013 The County Council of Dorchester County met in regular session on November 5, 2013 with the following members present: Present were Jay L. Newcomb, President; William V. Nichols, Vice President; Ricky Travers; Rick Price and Tom Bradshaw. Also present were E. Thomas Merryweather, County Attorney and Donna Lane, Executive Administrative Specialist. REGULAR SESSION EXECUTIVE SESSION The Council adjourned from a Regular Session and convened in a closed Executive Session pursuant to State Government Article pursuant to §l0-508(A)(1) to discuss the appointment, employment, assignment, promotion, discipline, demotion, compensation, removal, resignation, or performance evaluation of appointees, employees, or officials over whom it has jurisdiction; and pursuant to §10-508(A)(7) to consult with counsel to obtain legal advice on a legal matter. Voting in favor of the closed Executive Session were all Council members. REGULAR SESSION INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chief Sewell Winterhawk Fitzhugh led the invocation and Councilman Bradshaw led the pledge of allegiance. Winter 2014 Issue Railroads of Landenberg By Chris Black It was 12:05 on October 19, 1872 when the first train on the Wilmington and Western Railroad reached its final destination in the village of Landenberg. A large crowd of the Townspeople gathered, dressed in their best outfits, to cheer on the dignitaries, public officials, and the press as they stepped down from the train. The procession marched up the Landenberg hill to beat the beat of Wilmington’s Independent Cornet Band. When they reached the home of Charles Weiler, the general superintendent of the Landenberger Mills, there were speeches and a lavish reception. Joshua T. Heald, President of the Wilmington and Western Railroad, spoke not only of how proud he was of the work up to Landenberg, but of an optimistic future for this small railroad as it continued west. The Wilmington and Western Railroad was chartered in 1867 by a Corporate Board with the hope it would travel to Landenberg, The village of Landenberg as seen in about 1905 from the vantage point of the Pomeroy and Newark railroad track crossing over Landenber road. A newly rebuilt Lancaster, York, Pittsburgh and (1898) road bridge crossing the White Clay Creek connected Landenberg's business eventually far to the west in the district with residential homes on the eatern hill rising from it. Tom Marshall’s Weekly News, September 28, 2009 Improved Commerce in Delaware: When William Penn laid out Dover in 1683, near the geographic center of his “Three Lower Counties on the Delaware,” transport was slow and the new settlers isolated. Small sailing ships plied the rivers flowing into Delaware Bay, carrying grain and supplies to small inland towns, such as Milford, Frederica, Dover, Smyrna, and Cantwell’s Bridge (Odessa). In the early to mid-19th century, steamboats took over, mainly connecting Delaware to the markets of Philadelphia. In 1832 the New Castle and Frenchtown horse-drawn railroad was built, connecting the Delaware River with access to Chesapeake Bay, thereby providing some limited commerce between Philadelphia and Baltimore without sailing all the way around Cape Charles. This was soon superceded by the first Chesapeake and Delaware Canal with its locks at both ends. There was also primitive rail service provided by the construction of the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore (P W & B), but people and goods had to be ferried across the Susquehanna River near its mouth. The first railroad bridge from Perryville to Havre de Grace was opened in 1855. The Delaware Railroad was built the length of the state in 1859, with considerable opposition. Some important towns were thereby connected, others sprang up along the new railroad. What a difference that made in getting Delaware’s produce to market and manufactured goods and supplies into the First State, not to mention the jobs the railroad provided! Coming off the P. W. & B. above Newport, the new line passed through New Castle, then followed the old New Castle & Frenchtown right-of-way through what is now State Road and Bear, turning south to Kirkwood, Mount Pleasant, Middletown, Townsend, Clayton, Cheswold, Dover, Wyoming, Felton, Harrington, Bridgeville, Seaford, and Laurel to Delmar on the southern border with Maryland. -
