MSR® Introduces New Snow Safety Tools

Seattle, U.S.A. (January 20, 2012) — MSR (Mountain Safety Research), the Seattle-based engineer and manufacturer of standard-setting, high-performance outdoor equipment, is introducing two new MSR snow safety tools in 2012: the MSR Snow Fluke and MSR Snow Picket.

A look into the original Mountain Safety Research newsletters of 1969 and the early 1970’s uncovers MSR’s original forays into winter tools, including the original MSR Snow Fluke and Snow Picket. For Fall/Winter 2012, MSR redesigns these classics tools, offering lightweight snow anchors worthy of being carried by anyone on snow in the backcountry for emergency rescues or to secure tents and other equipment.

Based on technology in MSR’s high-performance Lightning line, the new MSR Snow Fluke is engineered with strong 7000-series aircraft aluminum frame and a rugged, nylon-supported urethane deck material to reduce material and weight while maintaining holding power. The result is the world’s lightest snow fluke, allowing snow adventurers to carry one or more in their packs without adding significant weight.

MSR also improved its beloved MSR Snow Picket, the long-time standard of on expeditions around the globe. MSR’s new Snow Picket is more durable and easier to place thanks to the addition of a strike plate on the drive end and a tapered point that easily penetrates hard pack and frozen snow. Strong and light, the MSR Snow Picket is made of 6000-series aluminum for optimum strength-to-weight performance and features a reinforced spine as well as multiple clip-in points to maximize placement options.

The new MSR Snow Fluke and MSR Snow Picket debuts in North America at the January 2012 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and in Europe at the January 2012 ISPO. The collection will be available in stores July 2012.
