Installing iStarDict and DDC Dzongkha Dictionaries on an iPhone from a Mac

I. Preliminary Requirements:

A. Your iPhone must be Jailbroken  Your iPhone must be Jailbroken in order to install the iStarDict app through Cydia (which is an application for iOS that enables users to find and install packages on jailbroken Apple iOS devices).  Without jailbreaking, you won't see Cydia, an alternative to the iTunes store, which you will need to download and install iStarDict.  Please refer to the technician at any reputable mobile shop in town for Jailbreaking your iPhone.  If your iPhone is jailbroken, avoid upgrading to iOS 7.1

II. Download and Install afc2add, and iStarDict

A. Install afc2addprogram through Cydia on your mobile device. (The afc2add package allows USB access from your PC to the filesystem on an iOS device.)

 Open Cydia from your phone.

 In the search bar, enter afc2add. You should find the file you searched for below your entry. Select the file.

 At the top right corner, you will see an option to install. Click on this and confirm.

 Once the installation is complete, it will ask you to reboot your device. Click on Reboot Device.  You can now exit Cydia.

B. Install iStarDict application on iPhone (iStarDict is the teccomended dictionary application to use with the DDC Dzongkha dictionaries.)

1. Open Cydia from your phone, click on Search and enter iStarDict.

2. At the top right corner, you will see an option Install. Click on it and then Confirm. The installation procedure will start.

3. Once the iStarDict app is installed, click on Return to Cydia.

4. To check if iStarDict is installed, go back to your home screen and look for iStarDict icon.

III. Downloading and Installing DDC Dzongkha Dictionaries

A. Download DDC Dzongkha Dictionaries

Download the DDC Dzongkha Dictionaries files in Format from here and save them on your computer.

B. Download and Installation of iFunBox on your Mac computer. (Other Mac based iPhone file managers may be used for this step, but iFunBox is free of charge)

1. Download iFunBox for Mac. 2. After downloading, go to your Downloads directory. 3. Double-click on ifunboxmac.dmg to open the file.

4. Drag iFunBox and drop it inside the Applications folder on your Mac as illustrated below.

C. Using iFunBox to copy Dictionary files from your Mac computer to your iPhone

1. Next, on your Mac, double-click on iFunBox.

2. You will see an FunBox window similar to the one shown below:

3. Connect your device to the computer via USB cable. The content files on your device should then be visible in the left pane of iFunBox.

4. Click on Raw File System to view the file system of your device in iFunBox.

Note: You won’t see the above file system under Raw File Systems unless have the”afc2add” package installed (Step II. A above). 5. Open the folder var ► mobile ► Library

6. Select New Folder from the toolbar.

7. Name the new folder Dictionary and click OK.

8. The new empty folder Dictionary is now created. 9. Double-click on the folder icon to open. 10. Now choose “Copy From Mac”.

11. Browse to the folder on your Mac where you saved the zip archive of Dzongkha StarDict files you downloaded earlier (Step I. C). (Downloaded files are normally saved under the folder Downloads) 12. Select and highlight all the files (.idx, .ifo and .dict) and then open.

13. Dzongkha StarDict files are now copied into the Dictionary folder you created on your mobile device.

14. Close iFunBox

IV. Using the DDC Dzongkha Dictionaties on your iPhone

1. Open iStarDict from your iPhone.

2. Click on Select all. Once you have selected all, you should see all the dictionaries marked as shown below;
