In the ancillariid genus Amalda, the shell is character rich and 96 described species are currently treated as valid. Based on shell morphology, several subspecies have been recognized within Amalda hilgendorfi, with a combined range extending at depths of 150–750 m from Japan to the South-West Pacific. A molecular analysis of 78 specimens from throughout this range shows both a weak geographical structuring and evidence of gene flow at the regional scale. -

Summary: The Brazilian species Pustulatirus ogum and Hemipolygona beckyae were examined, and certain morphologi- cal characters were described. Both species were originally assigned to the genus Latirus, considered as a heterogeneous complex. The radulae of both species are like that which characterizes Latirus, in which the innermost cusp of the rachidian tooth is well developed but always smaller than the other cusps. This feature differs from Leucozonia, in which this cusp is reduced or absent. The penis tapers terminally, and the tapered part may be long (more than half the total penis length), as in H. beckyae, or very short (less than half the total penis length), as in P. ogum. The anatomical data observed in both species are discussed under the framework of fasciolariid systematics and they appear to be widespread among other fasciolariid spe- cies. For this reason, to date, the soft-part features here provided and those known from previously studied species of Latirus are not useful for delineating precise generic diagnoses. -

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2007 Diving At Shoreham at 8.30am on Sunday 3rd June Sunday 3rd of June was the date of the second Mal Soc Vic branch dive. Simon Wilson (complete with shark shield)*, Lynton Stevens and I met at the car park at the beach at Shoreham on a cold but sunny morning. A plan was formulated whereby we would gear up and then walk around to Honeysuckle point where we would then enter the water. This was no easy task as the point was at least half a kilometre away! When we arrived at the point we entered the water and descended into around 3 metres with visibility around 5-7 metres. -

Maurizot, email address : [email protected] Abstract : The post-obduction formations of Grande Terre, New Caledonia, comprise igneous intrusions, regolith cover, and marine and terrestrial sedimentary rocks. Two restricted Late Oligocene granitoid bodies are intruded into the Peridotite Nappe and its substrate in the south of the island. Thick regolith cover developed over the Peridotite Nappe from the Late Oligocene or earlier. The Népoui Group comprises Late Oligocene–Early Miocene mixed marine carbonate and siliciclastic deposits. It mainly reworks the Peridotite Nappe and its regolith cover. Its development pattern is mainly controlled by tectonic uplift and subsidence. -
