The Seckford Foundation

The Seckford Foundation is one of Suffolk’s oldest charities. Established in 1587 by Thomas Seckford, it has supported the young and older people since the time of Queen Elizabeth I. benefiting from his endowment of land and buildings.

The modest Tudor Charity blossomed, becoming a complex Foundation. Now in the 21st century the Foundation is a registered charity. It incorporates Woodbridge School, Seckford Education Trust and Seckford Care which provides very sheltered flats for those who wish to live independently, residential care in Jubilee House, and a day club for those who live in the community.

The Endowment income enables the Foundation to offer scholarships and bursaries for pupils at Woodbridge School, to support the cost of Seckford Care and Jubilee House accommodation, providing support for the people living here, and to use our services to make much needed grants to those under 25 or over 50. We currently discharge our charitable objectives in the following ways:

• The provision of an Extra Care scheme at the Almshouses, our residential care home and our day club; • The provision of education through Woodbridge School, providing excellent education for 4 to 18 year olds; • The provision of grants to under 25 and over 50 year olds.

To achieve this, fees are charged for accommodation, care and education. Income from our investment supports our grant-making programme.

We also govern the Seckford Education Trust, which was established in 2012 in response to community requests, and have opened three secondary schools: SET Beccles School, SET Saxmundham School and SET Ixworth School, and in July 2019 we welcomed two Felixstowe based primary schools: SET Maidstone Infant School and SET Causton Junior School.
