Charles Pollock, a selection Charles Pollock in Rome in 1963, photo: Aaron Siskind Charles Pollock died thirty years ago (1902-1988). Since then, there have been more than a dozen exhibitions (including Charles Pollock, a retrospective at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice in 2015); a monograph (The Art of Charles Pollock, Sweet Reason by Terence Maloon in 2002, Ball State University Press) and a family correspondence (American Letters, Polity Press 2011) has been published; a film (Pollock & Pollock), by Isabelle Rèbre, will appear at the end of this year. With my mother, Sylvia Winter Pollock, we have been organizing, in the Charles Pollock Archives created twenty years ago (www.charlespollockarchives.com), all the known elements in order to con- stitute a “catalogue raisonné.” This on-going task, exhaustive only insofar as possible, permits us to now envisage a real selection of his life’s work. Here it is. It is dedicated to you: friends, collectors (or not), birds of passage, supporters, the curious, amateurs, admirers, publishers, art critics, journalists… Heartfelt thanks for your benevolent eye without which nothing, but nothing, would have been possible.
