Finishing with silver is no Hockey Edmonton | Executives small feat and you should be proud of your achievements. President: Mark Doram This season has seemed to roar by. I would like to thank the volunteers First VP: Darcy Wiltse Second VP: Joe Spatafora and staff for their countless hours of work that make our season run Director of Elite Hockey: Will Jang so smooth. We always experience a few hiccups but when we step Director of Community Hockey: Kevin Humphrys back and look at the big picture, over 8,500 athletes hit the ice and Director at Large: Ed Croken played a solid seven months of hockey. Director at Large: Bruce Howlett Treasurer: Berry Bentz Next year, the 2018-19 season will see some significant changes as Past President: Betty Chmilar we align with Hockey Alberta’s “Alberta One” concept. This will mean we’ll have six tiers of hockey, along with Elite in the case of Bantam Board of Directors and Midget. What will this look like? When you’ve registered for a tier 3 tournament you will be closely matched with other teams in the Knights of Columbus EFHC: Marc Aubee province and we won’t experience these huge gaps in team talent. NE District: Darlene Hein NW District: Myles Diamond Hockey Edmonton will begin the roll out of Hockey Canada’s novice SE District: Gerald Kruhlak program, which may see age range hockey. Development will be a SW District: Larry Shaben key component with this program. The goal is to grow better skilled EGHA: Bryan Toles | CAC: Richard McAdie MLAC: Neil Brown | SSAC: Ted Boomer players, who can compete and play at higher levels especially when Knights of Columbus AA: Bruce Fitzpatrick they hit pee wee, bantam and midget. Junior B: Larry Lepine | Junior C: George Metez Local associations will have standards they will be required to meet Standing Committees as an organization when it comes to governance and reporting. This falls under Hockey Alberta’s “Ideal MHA” program. Ice Allocation: Bernie Coderre Ice Management: Pat Elliott We continue to grow our relationships with local, provincial, national Minor Hockey Week Chair: Joan Kirillo and now international organizations such as Harbin, China. Hockey EOCF 50-50: Sam Gaekle Edmonton hosted the Harbin China Girls Team in late November. Referee Representatives: We’ve opened the door for our teams, both male and female, to visit Herman Costa (AA) & Duncan MacDougall (Federation) China for future tournaments. League Governors Hockey Edmonton is working on a possible leadership conference for pee wee, bantam and midget team leaders; we will keep everyone Edmonton Federation Hockey League posted on how this is progressing. Midget: Kim Turner (Acting) Your Hockey Edmonton board and executive have been busy over Bantam: Kim Turner the past few months on many projects to improve the hockey Pee Wee: Crystal Feader experience and add positive life lessons to our sport. It’s been a common refrain for the Winnipeg Jets lately, as they just can’t seem to get close to a full, healthy lineup. Seven players were out due to injury in Saturday’s 2-1 loss in Philadelphia. Here’s what we know about all of them, with further updates expected today as the Jets return to action with a morning skate and then their game in Washington against the Capitals. Mark Scheifele has missed two games with a suspected shoulder injury, and there will be no rushing him back into action. He’s considered day-to-day at this point, and coach Paul Maurice had said last week he was a possibility to play either tonight, or tomorrow in Nashville. But don’t bet on it. Defenceman Toby Enstrom is battling a lower-body issue which kept him out for four games, saw him return in New Jersey last Thursday and then be back out on Saturday. Maurice said it’s a nagging thing that can change day-to-day, so his status is very much a question mark. Defenceman Dmitry Kulikov missed Saturday’s game after getting hurt Thursday in New Jersey. Maurice hasn’t said how long he could be out, only that it’s upper-body. Goalie Steve Mason has been sent back to Winnipeg for further testing on a lower-body injury he suffered late in the game against the New York Rangers last Tuesday, which was his first game back from his second concussion of the season.

Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause.     HOCKEY HOOKY!! February 25, 2020 What is “Hockey Hooky”? Hockey Hooky is an annual event hosted by the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Schools from across “Oil Country” in Northern Alberta join us for an afternoon of hockey, education, and fun. The Oil Kings host a WHL hockey game, which offers an opportunity for students to combine the excitement of an Oil Kings hockey game that also offers a unique educational experience. The workbook issued at the door keeps students engaged as questions will be posted on the video scoreboard during each break in play. What is the plan? The plan is to leave the school no later than 9:00 am, on Tuesday, February 25, and travel by bus to Rogers Place to watch the Edmonton Oil KIngs play at 11:00 am. After the game, we will board the buses and travel home to arrive back at Parkdale before the end of the day. Please remember that Alberta weather and roads do not always cooperate, and if we arrive late your student will need to be picked up. Although this is an amazing opportunity to attend a game at Rogers Place, there is still an element of school. Students will have an assignment booklet that will need to be completed and handed in by March 03, 2020. Goals 1. HAVE FUN:​ For some it might be their first Oil Kings game, others it might be their first time at Rogers Place, others will be the fact that they are not sitting in a classroom. 2. Get a chance to learn in a very different way:​ Everyone knows that we are a combination of auditory, visual and tactile learners.

    NAX October Newsletter NAX Alumni Spotlight: This month’s alumni spotlight player is Maggie Peterson. Maggie spent three seasons at NAX with the Female Prep team recording 23 points in 68 career games. Maggie is currently in her first season with the University of Windsor Lancers and is majoring in Human Kinetics. Around the Rink: 99 former NAX players currently find themselves on junior or university/college rosters this season with the following breakdown: • 35 AJHL • 18 WHL • 11 U Sports • 11 ACAC • 5 CapJHL • 4 SJHL • 3 ACHA • 2 AJFHL/MJAHL • 1 BCHL/KIJHL/MJHL/NOJHL/NWJHL/VIHHL/NCAA Div 1/NCAA Div 3 Five NAX student-athletes were selected to represent Team Alberta Men’s U16 at the 2019 WHL Cup in Calgary. Forwards Billal Noori, Reid MacKay and Nate Danielson, who was selected as an assistant captain, helped lead the team to a first place round robin finish before losing in the semi-finals. Forward Bowden Singleton and defenseman Cale Ashcroft were unable to play due to injuries. The NHL Central Scouting released their 2020 NHL Draft Preliminary Players to Watch List and six NAX alumni found their names on the list. Congratulations to Carter Savoie, Carter Souch, Connor McClennon, Ethan Edwards, Luke Prokop, and Michael Benning. Carter Souch was the first of two former NAX student-athletes and current Edmonton Oil Kings to record their first career WHL hattrick in October. In two seasons at NAX Carter produced 34 points in 36 games. Dylan Guenther recorded his first career WHL hattrick on October 27 against the Seattle Thunderbirds becoming the youngest player in Oil Kings history to achieve the feat.
