Sake Museum Introducing Sake Brewing and the History of Sake in the Famous Brewery Area of Fushimi, : Gekkeikan Sake Co. LTD.

Fushimi is where built Fushimi Castle, which contributed to its growth as a big castle town. After that, Fushimi flourished as a stop-over town or an important point for water transport. In the early Edo period, more than 80 sake breweries were operating, which made Fushimi popular for sake. Gekkeikan Sake Co., LTD. established Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum in 1980, aiming to introduce the method of sake brewing and the history of sake, and has been open to visitors since 1987. Fushimi-ku, Kyoto City is rich in tourist attractions such as “Fushimi Inari-taisha”, which is the head shrine of Inari, with 30,000 branch shrines.

About Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum *Exhibitions of products telling the history of sake, and brewing tools *Brochures have been prepared which explain the sake brewery in Fushimi, the history of Gekkeikan, and the display of the museum’s collection in English, Korean, Chinese (traditional), and Japanese. (Video screening is also available in these languages, plus French.) *Tasting and selling of Gekkeikan Retro Bottle Ginjo Sake, Prime Wine, Tama- no-Izumi Daiginjyo Sake and limited-edition Okura Museum products *Wi-Fi access points have been installed.
