Technician for British Columbia Coastal Ecosystem Services Grant (May 2009 - August 2010) § Project studied the effect of otter re-establishment on ecosystem services § Conducted benthic surveys using quadrats and transects both underwater subtidally with SCUBA, snorkeling, and in the intertidal § Supervised workstudy students in the lab

Research Assistant for Cathryn Clarke Murray of UBC (September 2010 – April 2011) § Sampled settlement plates and measured attachment strength of fouling species § Analyzed data and prepared a manuscript for a project investigating the effect of log storage activities on the inter- and subtidal communities § Wrote content and uploaded photographs for the Marine Biodiversity of BC Lifedesk of the Encyclopedia of Life website

COMMUNICATION EXPERIENCE

Volunteer and Intern for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) (2011 - 2012) § Compiled a list of scientists to endorse science-based guidelines for marine protected areas § Created a database of primary and grey literature for their glass sponge reef campaign § Assembled a World Heritage tentative list nomination package for the glass sponge reefs § Raised $500 through a charity run and wrote a photo blog post about the fundraiser

President of the Ocean Society of UBC (2008 - 2009) § Planned, organized and participated in events from beach clean-ups to group outings to promote marine conservation and networking between marine scientists § Updated and re-organized the website Marine Educator Assistant for the Marine Ecology Centre (Summer 2007)

§ Taught marine ecology based classes to groups of 2 to 42 students aged kindergarten to adult § Designed and led guided tours of the aquarium and nearby shore to communicate the ecology and history of the area § Promoted the aquarium by participating in public markets and annual parade
