Born and raised in Hurdal, Norway, Sørlie is only winner to come from outside of the U.S. This Norwegian firefight- er began mushing in 1970 and moved to the Iditarod after winning all of the long distance races Europe had to offer. This year there are 52 competing mushers, 4 of which are Norwegians. Other competitors this year include nine of the last top ten finish- ers and five former champi- ons. The Norwegian musher will surely need to put up a fight to beat out this year’s stiff competition.
