WORDS FROM THE WORD – STAND PART 6

Ephesians 6:10-20 STAND in your ARMOR – Truth, Righteousness, Prepared with the Gospel, Faith, Saved (past, present, future), the Word of God, All- Prayer (in the Spirit), All-Watch [not sleeping; AWAKE!] (for all saints) o Pilgrim’s Progress notes one of the weapons as All-Prayer

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (2) By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. • If we stand in what we’ve done, we are NOT standing in GRACE • We cannot STAND JUSTIFIED and AT PEACE with GOD on our own • We have a reason to REJOICE when we stand in GRACE!

2 Corinthians 1:24 Not for that we have dominion (supreme authority)over your faith, but are helpers (co-laborers) of your joy: for by faith ye stand (an upright and active position).

1 Corinthians 2: 5 That your faith should not stand (exist) in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch (keep awake) ye, stand fast (to be stationery) in the faith, quit you like men (act manly), be strong (increase in vigor).

Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be (behave as a citizen) as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast (to be stationary) in one spirit, with one mind striving together (to wrestle in company with) for the faith of the gospel;

Psalm 24:1-3 A Psalm of . The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. (2) For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. (3) Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? • The idea here is, “Who shall ascend there with a view of abiding there? Who is worthy to dwell there?”…What is required for the acceptable worship of God? What will prepare a person for heaven?

• “stand” qûm (koom) A primitive root; to rise (in various applications, literally, figuratively, intensively and causatively) :4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. • “clean” - innocent • “pure” – from the word that means clarify or brighten • NOT those that LIFT themselves UP Psalm 24:5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. • “shall receive” is the same word as “lifted up” in v. 4 • “blessing” implies prosperity [from the word “to kneel”] • The LORD will bestow righteousness to those who understand that they aren’t…BUT HE IS! Psalm 24:6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. . • Those that seek the LORD are of this “generation”. This will be their WAY OF THINKING. This will be their TIME to find Him as they KNEEL to SEEK Him Psalm 24:7-10 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. (8) Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. (9) Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. (10) Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah. • As we think on the truths in the first part of the psalm, the LORD will reveal His glorious TRUTH. IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM…IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM…IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM! Bow to Him and He will LIFT YOU UP!

Psalm 4:1-2 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. (2) O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. • “enlarged” – broaden o God has always given him broad shoulders to bear the distresses that came in the past o Has he ever “enlarged” you when you were in distress? How has He done it? By ENLARGING YOUR FAITH! ▪ Financial (work) ▪ Family ▪ Personal (emotional) • “turn my glory into shame” – God had blessed David with the kingship, but now individuals were trying to shame him…(probably in the time of Absalom’s rebellion) o Would this world like to rob of the great blessing of being a Christian today? Would they like us to be ashamed to proclaim His truth? Would they like to say that we are not tolerant or loving? • “leasing” – falsehood; lies o How long will we have to endure the VANITY and LIES of this world? o SELAH – Think on that! :3-4 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. (4) Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. • “set apart” – distinguish or “put a difference” o God has put a difference in me because I am His and He is mine o I have a special LINE so that He sees it’s from me and He answers ▪ VALORIE or JEREMY calls! • “stand in awe” – QUIVER o The fact that I am SPECIAL to Him makes me AMAZED o I don’t want to SIN! I don’t want to be separated from Him and His PROTECTION and HIS LOVE and HIS CARE and HIS FELLOWSHIP o I can lay down my head and REST in Him! Psalm 4:5-7 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. (6) There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. (7) Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. (8) I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. • What are the “sacrifices of righteousness”? GIVE UP on TRUSTING your own righteousness! o The RESULT? GLADNESS! PEACE!

Psalm 33:1-8 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. (2) Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. (3) Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. (4) For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. (5) He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. (6) By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. (7) He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. (8) Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. • “stand in awe” – to turn aside from the road (for a lodging or any other purpose), that is, sojourn (as a guest); also to shrink, fear (as in a strange place); also to gather for hostility (as afraid) o PARK IT and THINK ABOUT our God o PARK IT and PRAISE our God o PARK IT and SING about our GOD

I want to STAND in the BATTLES that will come in 2020. I want to STAND remembering the GRACE by which I stand. I want to STAND in FAITH in a world that is faithless. I want to STAND in AWE of His greatness, His mercy, His goodness, His righteousness, His judgment.

Doxology Jude 1:24-25 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, (25) To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
