Preface Before You Begin

1 Selecting a Version

SoftBank Wireless Assistant Personal Edition is available in the following two versions. Select an appropriate version according to the circumstances in which you will use the product.

· Users who have a PC which is constantly connected to a network should install the Personal Edition Desktop Assistant Client on their PC. E-mail, calendar, contacts and work information (not available on some versions) will be synchronized for the profile set up on the Desktop Assistant Client. Synchronization will only be performed while the PC and Desktop Assistant Client are running and connected to the network.

Configure the Personal Edition according to the following procedure.

· Users who do not have a PC which is constantly connected to a network should install Personal Edition ISP Version. Connection information for the ISP mail server to be synchronized must be registered. The ISP Version does not synchronize calendar, contacts or work information. Configure the ISP Version according to the following procedure.

2 Desktop Assistant Client Requirements

The computer on which the Desktop Assistant Client will be used must meet the following requirements. Preface

· Memory: 64 MB of memory or greater · HDD Space: Minimum 32 MB

· Internet: Constant Connection Begin · The PC must connect to the internet when the power is turned on, however the E-mail

client does not have to run at this time. You

· Do not configure energy saving features on the computer. Setting these features may cause the power to be turned off. Chapter 1 SoftBank Wireless Assistant Registration

1 Registering SoftBank Wireless Assistant

Register by accessing the SoftBank Wireless Assistant mobile phone site through the Yahoo! Mobile main menu, and then following the procedure below.

1. From the [Yahoo! Mobile!] top menu, select [Menu List] > [Mail Contents] > [Mail Applications] > [SoftBank Wireless Assistant] on your mobile phone. (Figure 1-1)

2. At first, the site is displayed in Japanese for all customers. If you wish to view the site in English, please click the "English" at the bottom of this page. Select [Register Now] to begin registration. (Figure 1-2) Select the [日本語] link to switch to the Japanese page. 3. Continue to the Terms and Conditions page.

4. Select [Read], to continue to the terms and conditions page. Select [Agree] after confirming all the terms and conditions.

5. On the Fee (My Menu) registration screen, select [OK]to purchase the SoftBank Wireless Assistant. (Figure 1-3) Chapter 6. Be sure to click [Next] on the Member Registration Complete Screen. Be sure to click [Next] on the Member Registration Complete Screen.

Access the SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC browser interface and after accepting the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Terms and Conditions, carry out SoftBank Wireless Assistant user account registration according to onscreen instructions (Figure 1-4 - Figure 1-6)。

7. Set the Password. This password will be required each time you use the SoftBank Wireless Assistant so make sure to make note of it.(Figure 1-4)

8. Once you have arrived at this screen, the SoftBank Wireless Assistant account registration is complete. (Figure 1-5)

9. Next we will configure mailbox settings. Select Exchange or Domino based on your usage conditions. Enter the E-mail address you wish to synchronize. Continue to Chapter 3 [Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Version] if using the ISP Version.

Exchange or Domino settings can also be performed from your mobile phone. Select Exchange or Domino based on your usage conditions.

10. Check the Welcome E-mail that is sent to the E- mail address you entered. Leave the mobile phone on this screen while you check the E-mail.(Figure 1-6)

Chapter 2 2

Configuring the Personal Edition Chapter

Next use the SoftBank Wireless Assist account you have registered to access the SoftBank

Wireless Assist PC browser interface via the internet from your PC and download, install and configure the PC application (Desktop Assistant Client). Edition

2 Downloading and Installing the Desktop Assistant Client

Download the Desktop Assistant Client from the SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC browser interface and install it on your PC.

Have the information for the profile you want to synchronize ready before hand.

1. Once you login you will be taken to the [Setup Wizard – Company] screen for configuring the Desktop Assistant Client.

2. Read the download instructions and select [Download Now]. (Figure 2-3) Make sure to select [Save(S)] at this point, and do not delete the downloaded installer (It will be used when uninstalling the Desktop Assistant Client)

3. Once the download is complete, select [Save the program to disk] to save the installer.

4. Run the Installer.

5. Read the terms of use and click [Yes].

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

7. Select Lotus Notes or Microsoft Outlook depending on which you use and click [Next] (Figure 2-4).

8. Select the installation destination and click [Next] (Figure 2-5).

This completes the Desktop Assistant Client installation.

3 Configuring the Desktop Assistant

The Desktop Assistant Client setup will start automatically once installation is complete (Figure 2-7).

1. Enter your mobile phone number and the password you set in Chapter 1 2 "SoftBank Wireless Assistant User Account Registration" and click [Next] to continue. You will be taken to the configuration screen for the E-mail account to be synchronized with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant application (Figure 2-7)。

2. Enter the profile to be synchronized and that profiles authentication information.(Figure 2-8) 2

3. Select [Account Setup ] and then [Next] and the Desktop Assistant Client will begin to communicate with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server. If communication is successful, Desktop Assistant Client setup is complete.

4. This completes the Desktop Assistant Client setup. Return to your mobile phone and click [Next]. (Figure 2-9)。

4 Configuring the MobileSyncManager

Configuring the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Program downloaded to your mobile phone. First, select [Mobile SyncManager] from the menu on the left side of SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC browser interface website.

1. Check that the timezone is set to [Japan Standard Time] and click [Next]. (Figure 2-10)

2. Check that the account to be synchronized with SoftBank Wireless Assistant is displayed. (Figure 2-11)

Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Chapter Version

1 Accessing and Logging into the SoftBank Wireless Version

The ISP Version periodically checks mail that has arrived at the ISP mail server and allows it to

be sent to your mobile phone. This section explains IXP mailbox setup. Edition

1. Select [Internet [POP/IMAP]] to add an ISP mail account. (Figure 3-1)

2. Enter the[E-mail Address] and [Password] for the ISP you wish to use. You can also set a [Display Name] to distinguish between different registered mailboxes. (Figure 3-2) The mail server and account information you entered will now be authenticated. This may take a few minutes.

3. Configuration is complete when the [Mailbox Successfully Created] screen is displayed. (Figure 3-3)

Automatic configuration cannot be completed for some ISPs. If this occurs, manually configure the mail box according to 1.2 [If ISP E-mail Cannot be Automatically Configured].

4. If you wish to add another ISP mailbox, select [Yes], to quit configuration, select [No].

5. You will be returned to the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Home page. Check that your inbox is displayed. (Figure 3-4)

3 1.2 If ISP E-mail Cannot be Automatically Configured Automatic configuration cannot be completed for some ISPs. If this occurs you will need to

4. You will be returned to the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Home page. Check that the inbox you registered is displayed.(Figure 3-7)

Chapter 4 Mobile Phone Configuration

Download and install the [Mobile Sync Manager] synchronization application on your mobile phone once settings are completed on the PC to complete the SoftBank Wireless Assistant installation.

1 Mobile Sync Manager Installation

Once mailbox registration is complete, SoftBank Wireless Assistant account configuration is also complete. Connect to the internet with your mobile phone and download the Mobile Sync Manager.

1. Select [Get Software] to continue. (Figure 4-1)

2. From this point on, download and install the application according to the onscreen directions.

3. Please thoroughly review the terms of use when they are displayed part way through the installation process.

4. Installation will begin once you agree to the terms of use.

4 2 Mobile Sync Manager Account Setup

*Procedures hereafter differ according to mobile phone model. Continue after confirming your mobile phone model. Chapter

2.1 For <804NK/NOKIA N71><705NK/NOKIA N73> Users

2. Enter your mobile phone number. Next enter the Password you set during registration.(Figure 4-3)

3. After selecting [Next], select reset for existing mailboxes, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone.

Cleanup deletes existing mail, contacts and schedule data saved on the mobile phone after they are backed up to a PC when [Reset] is pressed, in order to prevent existing data from overlapping with data which will be downloaded to the mobile phone via SoftBank Wireless Assistant synchronization. Make absolutely sure to backup any data which may need to be saved beforehand. If [Cancel] is selected, the mail, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone will not be altered in anyway.(However, in the event that the data on the mobile phone and the PC overlap, two copies of the same data will end up on the mobile phone.)

4. Data will be reset when cleanup is performed.

5. This completes the Mobile Sync Manager setup. The application will automatically attempt to communicate with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server. Connection status can be confirmed on-screen. The first time synchronization is performed, only the newest 50 messages will be downloaded, remaining messages will be downloaded in order each time thereafter.

2.2 For <702NKⅡ/NOKIA6680> Users

1. The application will start automatically.

2. Enter your mobile phone number and the password you set during registration then select [Finish].

3. After selecting [Finish], select reset for existing mailboxes, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone.(Not for ISP version) Cleanup deletes existing mail, contacts and schedule data saved on the mobile phone after they are backed up to a PC when [Reset] is pressed, in order to prevent existing data from overlapping with data which will be downloaded to the mobile phone via SoftBank Wireless Assistant synchronization. 4. If communication is successful (Figure 4-5), click right on the directional key to open the mailbox settings screen. (Figure 4-6) Chapter

2.3 For Users

1. The application will start automatically.(Figure 4-7) 2. Enter your mobile phone number and the password you set during registration then select [OK].

3. The [Confirm Connection] screen will be displayed. Select [Yes] to display the [Send Packet?] screen, and select [Yes] again to begin active processing. 4. Next the [Download Update?] screen will be displayed. Select [Yes] here as well to begin communication with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server. 5. You will be taken to the Folders screen. If the connection status mark is shown in the upper right of the screen then synchronization is being executed correctly. If communication with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server is successful, the [Connected] mark indicating that communication is in progress will be displayed.(Figure 4-8)

Chapter 5 Uninstalling the SoftBank Wireless Assistant

1 Uninstalling the Desktop Assistant Client from Your PC

Uninstall using the Windows [Add or Remove Programs] feature or by running the Desktop Assistant Client installer you downloaded via the PC browser interface and following the onscreen instructions.

2 Mobile Sync Manger Uninstallation

In the event that you will no longer use the Mobile Sync Manager or will change mobile phones, uninstall the application using the following procedure.

2.1 For <804NK/NOKIA N71> <705NK/NOKIA N73> Users

1. Select [Menu]>[Entertainment].

2. Select [SoftBank Wireless Assistant].

3. Select [Options]>[Delete], and select [Yes] on the delete confirmation screen to uninstall.

2.2 For <702NKⅡ/NOKIA6680> Users

1. Select [Menu]>[Tools]>[Applications].

2. Select SoftBank Wireless Assistant.

3. Select [Options]>[Delete], and select [Yes] on the delete confirmation screen to uninstall.

2.3 For Users

1. Select [Menu] > [S!Application (VApplication)](or [Entertainment] > [ S!Application (VApplication)]) > [ S!Application Library (VApplication Library)]. * There may be some differences depending on your mobile phone model.

2. If Mobile Sync Manager is running, close it.

3. Select [SoftBank Wireless Assistant].

4. Select [Menu] > [Delete], and select [Yes] on the delete confirmation screen to uninstall.
