This research is dedicated to Mr. Alan Charlesworth Armitage (1915- 2002) of Christchurch, who encouraged this research. His family roots NEW ZEALAND in England were in the West Riding. Originally Independents living at Hightown in the Spen Valley, here they joined the Primitive Methodists and then moved to Leeds. Subsequently some of the family moved to New Zealand where they became Wesleyan Methodists. PRIMITIVE METHODIST MINISTERS by CIRCUITS [2015] In 1988 the late William Leary published his Ministers & Circuits in the Primitive ABBREVIATIONS Methodist Church, a Directory which records the ministerial stationing. Ths accuracy of Leary’s listing in part is complicated by an inconsistency of B - born presenting material for the oversea stations – Australia/Australasia, Canada and CH - children New Zealand. His source for this research was the annual Primitive Methodist Ct. - circuit Conference. D - died - EM - entered ministry When conference met in late spring in the United Kingdom to decide the Kendall - H.B. Kendall, The Origin and History of the Primitive Methodist Church ministerial stationing, it was mid-winter in New Zealand. New Zealand Climate Summary: Summer 2017-18 Issued: 5 March 2018 New Zealand’s hottest summer on record Temperature Hottest summer on record. The nation-wide average temperature for summer 2017- 18 was 18.8°C (2.1°C above the 1981-2010 from NIWA’s seven station temperature series which began in 1909). Summer temperatures were well above average (>1.20°C above the summer average) across all regions. Rainfall Highly variable from month to month and heavily impacted by two ex-tropical cyclones during February. Summer rainfall in the South Island was above normal (120- 149%) or well above normal (>149%) over Canterbury, Marlborough, Nelson, and Tasman, and near normal (80-119%) to below normal (50-79%) around Otago, Southland, and the West Coast. North Island summer rainfall was above or well-above normal around Wellington and much of the upper North Island, and near normal or below normal over remaining North Island locations including Taranaki, Manawatu- Wanganui, Hawke’s Bay, and Gisborne. Soil moisture As of 28 February, soils were wetter than normal for the time of year across the upper North Island and the central and upper South Island. Soil moisture was near normal elsewhere, although parts of Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, and Southland had slightly below normal soil moisture. Seabirds Found Dead on New Zealand Beaches in 1995

TAYLOR 50 Kingborne Street, Strathmore, Wellington, New Zealand ABSTRACT During 1995, participants in the Beach Patrol Scheme patrolled 3498 km of the New Zealand coastline. There were 7625 dead seabirds of 55 species recovered by patrollers. In addition, beach patrollers found 156 birds of 28 non-seabird species. Unusual finds were the third specimen of a beach-wrecked Lesser Frigatebird (Fregata arid) in New Zealand and five Kermadec Petrels (Pterodroma neglects). Australasian Gannets (Morus serrator) wrecked in larger numbers than in any year since the start of the Beach Patrol Scheme. There were 648 birds recovered at an average rate of 22.2 birds per 100 km.A large wreck of Sooty Shearwaters (Puflinusgriseus) occurred on Stewart Island in May 1995. Causes of seabird mortality are discussed in the paper. KEYWORDS: Seabirds, mortality, Fregata ariel, Morus serratot; Puffinus griseus INTRODUCTION & METHODS This paper records the results of the Ornithological Society of New Zealand's Beach Patrol Scheme for 1995. All sections of coast (Figure 1) were patrolled, except Canterbury South and Fiordland. In total, 554 beach patrol cards were received by 1May 1997. Kilometres 'travelled' are the total distances searched during patrols, whereas kilometres 'covered' are the lengths of coast patrolled monthly Hence, if the same 1 km stretch of beach is patrolled twice in one month, 2 km have been travelled but only 1km covered. For a detailed description of methods for beach patrolling and of the Beach Patrol Scheme see Powlesland & Imber (1988). -

It is the western boundary current of the South Pacific subtropical gyre south of 34°S and is an unique example of a western boundary current (the East Australian Current) reattaching to a landmass. -
