However it has been abandoned as an area of lepidopterological studies for a long time. A total number of 80 butterfly species were recorded during inventory studies (2005-2008), which proved the occurrence of 80 species (81.6% of species recorded in the Mazovia voivodeship and about half of Polish fauna), including 7 from the European Red Data Book and 15 from the national red list (8 protected by law). Several xerothermophilous species have probably become extinct in the last few decadesColias ( myrmidone, Pseudophilotes vicrama, Melitaea aurelia, Hipparchia statilinus, H. alcyone), or are endangered in the KNP and in the region (e.g. Maculinea arion, Melitaea didyma), due to afforestation and spontaneous succession. Higrophilous butterflies have generally suffered less from recent changes in land use, but action to stop the deterioration of their habitats is urgently needed. -

In the present paper references on the lepidopteran species in need of protection, specified in the EU Habitats Directive, as well as the species included in the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 57/2007 on the regime of the natural protected areas, the conservation of the natural habitats of flora and fauna have been made. Information is provided on the distribution and status of the protected population of Lepidoptera from Botoºani county (North-East of Romania). Résumé. Le travail présente les espèces de lépidoptères nécessitant protection prévues dans la directive Habitats de l’UE et les espèces inscrites dans l’Ordonnance d’urgence du Gouvernement no. 57/2007 sur le régime des zones naturelles protégées, la conservation des habitats naturels de la flore et de la faune. On fournit des informations sur la répartition et la situation actuelle des populations de lépidoptères protégées du département de Botoºani (Nord-Est de la Roumanie). C’est une contribution pour la future base de données qui comprendra toutes les espèces de lépidoptères protégées de Roumanie. After the integration of Romania in the European Union the legal framework for the protection and the conservation of rare species was adopted. In the present work there have been made references to the species of Lepidoptera in need of protection specified in the EU Habitats Directive (92/43 EEC): - ANNEX 2 Animal and plant species of community interest whose conservation requires the designation of special areas of conservation; - ANNEX 4 Animal and plant species of community interest in need of strict protection. -

Urbanization can severely impact butterfy communities, yet there have been no reports of the species richness and distribution of butterfies in urban parks in Beijing. Here, we conducted the frst butterfy survey in ten urban parks in Beijing and estimated butterfy species richness. Subsequently, we examined the distribution pattern of butterfy species and analyzed correlations between butterfy species richness with park variables (age, area and distance to city center), and richness of other bioindicator groups (birds and plants). We collected 587 individual butterfies belonging to 31 species from fve families; 74% of the species were considered cosmopolitan. The highest butterfy species richness and abundance was recorded at parks located at the edge of city and species richness was signifcantly positively correlated with distance from city center (p < 0.05). No signifcant correlations were detected between the species richness and park age, park area and other bioindicator groups (p > 0.05). Our study provides the frst data of butterfy species in urban Beijing, and serves as a baseline for further surveys and conservation eforts. China is a megadiverse country but is rapidly losing biodiversity as a consequence of socioeconomic development and expansion of urban land since the 1990s1,2. -

Species richness declined along the urbanization gradient. Species that were most common in the whole city were Aglais io, Pieris napi and Pieris rapae. The highest number of species was recorded in ruderal sites and in parks, while species richness was low on cultivated lawns. We classify also butterflies recorded in Lodz using ecological attributes, describing all stages of their life cycle and host plants. On the basis of this analysis, we distinguished seven ecological groups of species within Lodz. It is based on a concatenated alignment of the mitochondrial gene COI and up to 11 nuclear gene fragments, using Bayesian inference of phylogeny. To avoid analytical biases that could result from our region-focus sampling, our European tree was grafted upon a global genus- level backbone butterfly phylogeny for analyses. In addition to a consensus tree, we provide the posterior distribution of trees and the fully-concatenated alignment for future analyses. -

Desiccation in soil pots resulted in moderate water loss in Ae. biunciais MvGB 377, 382 and Ae. bicornis MvGB 585, parallel with a high degree of stomatal closure and significant decrease in the net CO2 fixation (A), while in Ae. tauschii MvGB 605, 589 stomatal conductance (gs) and A remained rela- tively high in the desiccation period, and parallel with this gs and A were more tolerant to decrease in RWC than in wheat cultivars and in the above-detailed Aegilops genotypes. In spite of this, the decrease of RWC was fast and consid- erable in Ae. -
