District of Kangra

Kangra district lies between 31˚ 21′ to 32˚ 59′ N latitude and 75˚ 47′ 55″ to 77˚ 45′ E longitude. It is situated on the southern escarpment of the Himalayas. The entire area of the district is traversed by the varying altitude of the Shivaliks, Dhauladhar and the Himalayas from north-west to south-east. The altitude varies from 500 metres above mean sea level (amsl) to around 5500 metres. It is encapsulated in the north by the districts of Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti, in the south by Hamirpur and Una, in the east by Mandi and in the west by Gurdaspur district of Punjab. It was the largest district of the composite Punjab in terms of area till it was transferred from Punjab to on the 1st November, 1966 and had six tehsils namely Nurpur, Kangra, Palampur, Dehragopipur, Hamirpur and Una. was also a tehsil of Kangra district up to 1962 and Lahaul & Spiti which also formed a part of Kangra was carved out as a separate district in 1960.

ITINERARY FOR HEAT 2014

12 Days/ 11 Nights

PRE TREK

DAY 1 (20th May) - ARRIVE AT BHOPAL STATION

Comrades will assemble at Bhopal station to board MALWA Exp. at 17:00 Hrs. After boarding train all will settle at their respective seats and will head to have a totally different experience of their life.

DAY 2 (21st May) - ARRIVE & DRIVE TO SALLI VILLAGE (BASE CAMP) (80Kms/3HRS)

As the group will arrive the taxis will take them to the Base Camp (1850M) i.e. to the Salli Village. After arrival the lunch will be served and tents will be allotted. Post lunch the group will walk to Salli Village and river Khauli. Dinner followed by bonfire and songs/group entertainment.

DAY 3 (22nd May) - ACCLIMATIZATION DAY AROUND SALLI

The view from the base camp is spectacular with snow capped peaks in the front and river Khauli flowing through the valley. The back view is even spectacular with Pong and Maharana Ranjit Singh Reservoirs visible from end to end.

The group will go for an acclimatization walk after breakfast and will return till lunch. Post lunch, the group will prepare their rucksacks for the trek and some adventure activities.

ACTUAL TREK PROGRAM

DAY 4 (23RD May) - TREK TO CAMP 1 AT HANDI (2500M) 6KMS/ 4HRS

Post breakfast the group will depart for trek to Camp I and will reach till lunch. On arrival Rasna/ Lemonade will be served. Post lunch, welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis will be made. In the evening, soup time followed by dinner and campfire. The group will logout from the hectic day and will sleep in the tents.

Adventure Activity - Tyrolean Traverse

DAY 5 (24TH May) - TREK TO CAMP 2 AT DRUNI TAAL (3000M) 5KMS/ 3 HRS

Handi camp offers one of the most spectacular views of the Dhauladhar Himalayas range. Post breakfast the group will depart for trek to Camp II and will reach till lunch. On arrival Rasna/ Lemonade will be served. Post lunch, welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis will be made. In the evening, soup time followed by dinner and campfire. The group will logout from the hectic day and will sleep in the tents.

Adventure Activity - Exploring the nearby high altitude area

DAY 6 (25TH May) - CLIMB TO ATTI TOP (3300M) 2KMS

Great spectacular views of the Dhauladhar snow mountains from the top.

It’s a Height gain day to Atti Top. Hence post breakfast the group will depart for trek to Atti Top and will enjoy the spectacular views. The group will return back till lunch. Evening at leisure. In the evening, soup time followed by dinner and campfire. The group will logout from the hectic day and will sleep in the tents.

DAY 7 (26TH May) - TREK TO CAMP 1 AT HANDI

After spending two beautiful days at Camp 2 its time to scale down! Post breakfast the group will depart for trek to Camp I and will reach till lunch. On arrival Rasna/ Lemonade will be served. Post lunch, welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis will be made. In the evening, soup time followed by dinner and campfire. The group will logout from the hectic day and will sleep in the tents.

Adventure Activity - Rappelling

(MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

DAY 8 (27th May) - TREK DOWN TO THE BASE CAMP AT VILLAGE SALLI

Post breakfast the group will depart for trek to Base Camp and will reach till lunch. On arrival Rasna/ Lemonade will be served. Post lunch, welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis will be made. The evening will be at leisure to visit the town. After dinner the group will logout from the hectic day and will sleep in the tents.

DAY 9 (28th May) - DRIVE TO KHAJJIAR/ DALHOUSIE

Post breakfast the group will board the taxis for transfer to Khajjiar/ Dalhousie. On reaching, all will check into the hotel and will get freshen up. After taking lunch the group will be free to rove around. At night all will assemble for dinner and then logout for bed.

Note: Those opting for Ex-Pathankot Package will be transferred to Pathankot to board the train for their respective destination

th DAY 10 (29 May) - EXPLORING KHAJJIAR/ DALHOUSIE

Post breakfast the group will be free to rove around the nearby destinations of Khajjiar/ Dalhousie and will return at night. After dinner will logout for bed.

th DAY 11 (30 May) – TRANSFER TO PATHANKOT FOR BOARDING THE TRAIN

Post breakfast the group will pack their bags and will leave for Pathankot to board the train for Bhopal. Lunch will be on the way. After boarding train all will settle at their seats. Dinner in train.

DAY 11 (31ST May) – BHOPAL

Now it's time to bid adieu to all the comrades who spend the 11 memorable days with each other.

MEDICAL FACILITIES

Facilities for proper medical aid are available at every campsite throughout the trek. However those on special medication or with known drug allergies should bring their own necessary medications.

Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trek routes keeping safety in mind. Our experienced camp leaders have been constantly visiting the area to check all the details. Stringent safety standards are adhered to strictly, and only quality equipment is used.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The package price will be deducted as per the following conditions strictly. No refund will be entertained without receiving a cancellation request effective from the date of receipt of letter.

Notice of less than 30 days: Half fee refund

Notice of less than 15 days: No refund.

No refund will be given to people who are unable to complete the trek or abandon it due to any reasons.

CERTIFICATE & SOUVENIR

Every trekker will be given a souvenir and awarded with a certificate on successfully completing the trek.
