Sequential extraction procedure was employed in sediment samples for the geochemical partitioning of the metals. Total trace metal content in water and sediment samples were analyzed and compared with different standard and reference values. Concentration of total chromium, lead, cadmium, zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt and arsenic in water samples were greatly exceeded the toxicity reference values in both season. Concentration of chromium, lead, copper and nickel in sediment samples were mostly higher than that of severe effect level values, at which the sediment is considered heavily polluted. On average 72 % chromium, 92 % lead, 88 % zinc, 73 % copper, 63 % nickel and 68 % of total cobalt were associated with the first three labile sequential extraction phases, which portion is readily bioavailable and might be associated with frequent negative biological effects.

TURKIC COOPERATION IN THE CENTER OF EURASIA: THE TURKIC COUNCIL Gülperi GÜNGÖR GÜLPERİ GÜNGÖR Analysis No : 2021 / 6 05.02.2021 The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization with the Nakhichevan Treaty signed between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey with the aim of promoting cooperation within a joint structure. The organizations flag contains the elements of the national flags of the founding member states: the eight-pointed star (Azerbaijan), the color blue (Kazakhstan), the sun (Kyrgyzstan), and the crescent (Turkey). The cooperation process between the Turkic-speaking countries started right after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the establishment of the new Turkic Republics. Turkey was one of the first countries to recognize the newly founded Turkic Republics. In this process, many bilateral and multilateral collaborations have been carried out in political, economic and cultural areas. Established in 1992, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has played a role in the execution of cooperation mechanisms in the field of development. The foundations of the Turkic Council are based on these collaborations and the summits of the Heads of Turkic Speaking States that have been held since 1992. The main decision-making body of the Turkic Council is the Council of Heads of State. The other bodies are the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Senior Officials Committee (which provides technical information), the Council of Elders, and the secretariat. The organization's secretariat is located in Istanbul. The Secretariat carries out its activities with a secretary general and deputy general secretaries representing each member country, project managers, and experts.

Yousuf Gazi1 · Md. Bodruddoza Mia1 Received: 3 October 2020 / Accepted: 21 December 2020 © The Author(s) 2021 OPEN Abstract Rapid urbanization, industrialization, and development activities are posing numerous threats to the rivers of Bangla- desh. In the recent decade, Turag River has been exposed to severe threats due to anthropogenic activities. The present research deals with the evaluation of water quantity–quality, landuse and landcover (LULC), and land surface tem- perature (LST) of Turag River and its foodplain by using an integrated approach of feld study, laboratory analysis, and geospatial techniques. LULC mapping of the study area has been done using multi-temporal Landsat satellite images by unsupervised method, Normalized Diference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Diference Water Index indices (NDWI) approach. From LULC classifcation, the study shows that the average reduction of water bodies from 1989 to 2019 is about 60–66%, and the rate of reduction is about 14.25 ha per year. Due to anthropogenic activities and rapid urbanization, a large number of water bodies have been depleting. The average temperature of the river water from fled observed data is 30.23 °C and from image processed data is about 28.32 °C. The minimum and maximum values of pH, EC, TDS, and Eh are 6.87–8.44, 808–1192 μs/cm, 406–739 ppm, − 31 to – 150 mV, respectively. The concentration ranges of cations (Na, Ca, Mg, K, Fe, and Mn) are 85.43–247.60, 28.59–39.47, 11.1–13.58, 5.21–13.26l, .07–1.14, .006–.47 mg/l con- 3− − 2− secutively.

International Journal of Business and Society, Vol. 18 S1, 2017, 205-222 HALAL ECOSYSTEM: PROSPECT FOR GROWTH IN BANGLADESH Nabila Nisha. North South University Mehree Iqbal North South University ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to draw special attention to Bangladesh as one of the potential markets where the concept of Halal ecosystem can be developed. An overview of this dynamic concept, followed by the current stance, challenges and future outlook of Bangladesh regarding Halal ecosystem is thereby described. This study applies content analysis to identify general trends and research results of Halal ecosystem in a descriptive form. Using secondary sources, it also provides future directions for both Bangladesh and the global context. Government support and regulatory frameworks are crucial at this stage to strengthen confidence amongst consumers, industry players and investors regarding Halal ecosystem in Bangladesh. Moreover, regional and global arrangements for Halal certifications are necessary to fully embrace this concept in Bangladesh and beyond. However, lack of empirical data and research on Halal ecosystem limits the intensity of arguments in this study. Besides, absence of proper information regarding Halal certifications, database of companies involved in this dynamic process and initiatives of government and regulatory bodies in Bangladesh further hinder the presentation of a wholesome picture of Halal ecosystem. Keywords: Halal Ecosystem; Islamic Finance; Halal Industry; Islamic Economy; Muslim Consumers; Bangladesh. 1. INTRODUCTION In today’s increasingly globalized world, the Islamic economy has been continuously evolving and requiring companies to provide products and services that meet their faith- based needs. The core two sectors that are structurally affected by this requirement of Muslim consumers are the Halal industry, which mainly comprises of food, lifestyle and travel, and the Islamic finance industry (Thomas and Selimovic, 2015).

The Management of Aquatic Ecosystems through Community Husbandry (MACH) project has been working in the area since 1998 with communities that use the Turag River and its connected beels and floodplains to try to restore and increase wetland productivity and ensure sustainable fisheries. During participatory planning exercises for the project the communities reported that these industries use the surrounding waterbodies, particularly Mokesh Beel and Ratanpur Khal, which flows through the beel, as a disposal ground for untreated waste. They reported that this pollution led to reduced yields of poor quality fish that smell of chemicals. Effluent from industries downstream in the Turag catchment also appears to be entering the river and is carried upstream during low river flows

  • Of 39 Annexure II Statement by ECO
Annexure II Statement by ECO Secretary General 31st RPC Meeting, January 21, 2021 His Excellency Ibrahim Senel, the Head of Delegation of Turkey, Distinguishes Participants Ladies and gentlemen, I am privileged, indeed, to welcome you at this 31st Session of the ECO Regional Planning Council. Thank you all for making it convenient to participate in this mega ECO event which is convened every year to review the past activities of the organization, as well as consider and evolve some fresh programs and projects to be executed from ECO’s platform for continuing the developmental process in our region. As you are kindly aware, the post-30th RPC period witnessed a persistent global and regional crisis due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The ongoing pandemic, that yet to meet an end, continues to affect the routine public and private as well as international and regional affairs. The COVID crunch, like most parts of the world, has not spared our region, hampering regular developmental activities which were perceived to be made in consideration of the ECO Work Program and Calendar of Events for 2020 endorsed by the 30th Meeting of RPC. It is relevant to mention here that the domestic containment measures and global disruption to connectivity, trade, tourism and production have required our region to prepare for the prospects of an economic slowdown. As of other regions, the public infrastructure in the ECO region was neither built nor prepared to counter such kind of a sudden situation. Though the pandemic bears hardship and difficulties, it also appeared to give some learning lessons.

The population of river dolphins was estimated through surveys carried out from December 2012 to November 2013. Surveys were conducted on a fortnightly basis. The dolphins were counted within an 18.4 km stretch (known to be the most polluted stretch) of the 75 km long river. A totalof62 dolphin sightings were recorded, both as individual sightings and as groups. The highest monthly count was in August. The best- high-low estimates of 9-11-7 individuals were recorded in August 2013 in river ecology.
