In the United States today is a national holiday called Labor Day and today’s podcast is a definitely a labor of love. For those of you who are new to the podcast my name is Steve Holden and I am recording this podcast in Southern California near San Diego. If you have been a long time listener, then thank you for your attention and support. The worldwide family of CHVRCHES fans are awesome, and I really enjoy playing a small role in it. Today’s podcast will attempt to catch you up on the most recent CHVRCHES news and sample some new music. Even though this is a relatively shorter podcast we will continue to end the podcast with a recommended Retro 80s Synth song. This one is a good one. That intro song sample that started out today’s podcast is a brand new song collaboration with Japan’s Wednesday Campanella [@wed_camp] (https://twitter.com/wed_camp) (http://www.wed-camp.com/) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wednesday_Campanella). The song is called “Out Of My Head” that was also released with a corresponding music video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w9Zs_OfEgs). I’ve listened to the song pretty regularly since it came out and watching the music video is pretty enjoyable. I really like the song, and the collaboration between the two bands. There is definitely a pop vibe to the song with a nice mix of synth sounds, and the power guitar riffs fit the song well. The ending is quite a head banger. From my perspective the graphics and themes in the video are very Japanese culture centric, and there is a lot of symbolism to digest. All in all, a nice new song that was an unexpected surprise when it was released. I am definitely in the camp that believes that CHVRCHES can surprise us with new stuff as much as they want. ● https://www.laurenmayberryfans.com/blog/chvrches-drop-new-single-out-of-my-head-featuring-wed nesday-campanella FAN QUESTION The last CHVRCHES fan question that we posted on our Facebook Fan Page was “What song has featured on the original sound track for the game FIFA 14?” And the answer from Roland was correct! It was “We Sink.” Speaking of soccer and CHVRCHES, the band is supporting a club in Scotland and this club’s new shirts have the CHVRCHES logo on them and they are reportedly going to be on sale soon so we can all buy one if we want. I am expecting a link or two on Twitter by the time I am are recording this -- so check out Twitter for more info. There is also going to be some online virtual CHVRCHES shirts for players of the latest FIFA video game. The next “How Big Of A CHVRCHES FAN Are You?” question is “What song does Lauren describe in her mind as "the guitar song?"” You can answer over on the Facebook CHVRCHES FAN PODCAST site (https://www.facebook.com/chvrchespodcast/) [or https://fb.me/chvrchespodcast]). NEWS The last podcast was on July 7th so the news I have here is basically about two month’s worth of news to … summarize. I hope I picked the right ones. 1. In additional to the new song “Out Of My Head”, CHVRCHES also released a “Remix” collection album of songs remixing the new song “Miracle” from their 3rd album “Love Is Dead”. There are four songs in that remix collection (Manila Killa, IHF, Mija, & The Juan Maclean) and you can listen to them via most of the cloud streaming services and I bought my copies on Amazon. These remixes are in addition to the two previous Get Out remixes -- one called Roosevelt and one called One Bit). Some of these new Miracle remixes are better than others, however long time listeners will know that I’m generally not much of a fan of the remixes, but I totally understand that others love them a lot. I do think it is great that CHVRCHES are releasing the STEMS to their songs so that other artists can riff & experiment on their material. 2. Lauren recently did an interview with the blog Lauren Mayberry Fans. It is an excellent interview that covers a lot of new material since their last interview with the site. I highly recommend reading it in full. A link will be in the show notes. One of the items that caught my eye that I’d like to share is with regards to CHVRCHES adding a new live drummer Jonny Scott. Lauren mentioned that “He played with Iain in a band called Unwinding Hours and was also in Martin's university band, Julia Thirteen, so we've all known him for a while and also been fans of his playing. He's truly one of the most versatile, expressive drummers I have ever seen and we're really lucky he wanted to come out on the road with us. He can also play the drum part to pretty much every Smashing Pumpkins song that ever was so I feel like that will be fun when it comes to headline tour soundcheck time.” You can get more answers like this from Lauren in the interview. a. https://www.laurenmayberryfans.com/blog/chvrches-lauren-mayberry-chats-with-us-about-lov e-is-dead-touring-chicago-fans-the-future 3. The 3rd item is just a friendly reminder that if you want to see all future CHVRCHES shows you can go to the CHVRCHES website for all the latest concerts ---(http://chvrch.es/#shows ) . They have been playing since the release of their 3rd album a lot of festival shows in Europe, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. And they have just finished doing summer festivals in in the U.S. with more recent performances in Chicago and Iowa. They are starting their North America tour in September - October, and will be in San Diego on Sept. 20, 2018. In November they are back to shows in Europe. And they have announced a UK tour schedule starting in February 2019. a. http://chvrch.es/#shows b. https://www.readdork.com/photos/heres-chvrches-doing-rock-werchter-2018-in-photos c. https://www.engadget.com/2018/08/01/lollapalooza-live-stream-red-bull-tv/ d. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/trnsmt-2018-music-fans-set-12812605 4. And lastly, and maybe best of all -- is that CHVRCHES played on Jimmy Kimmel Summer Concert Series in Hollywood, California on August 14, 2018. I and a good number of SOCAL CHVRCHES fans were able to attend. It was great to see Chris, Nathan, and Alyssa in person and to meet to some new friends. The concert experience was great but ultimately pretty short with only five songs total played -- Get Out, Miracle, Graves, Graffiti, and Never Say Die. But the band came out after the show for pictures, thank yous, and some signatures so that was awesome. It was a totally amazing experience. I’ve been looking at the data on how much time people are listening to podcasts on Apple devices, and I think that shorter podcasts might be a better near-term format. So, I’m still thinking of experimenting with trying to do more frequent but shorter podcasts. Let me know what you think of this concept. I know I need to work on more frequent as the time between this podcast and the last was 2 months. You can head over to www.chvrchespodcast.com for all the links mentioned in this podcast, and details on how to subscribe to the podcast via Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, Google’s Podcast app for Android, SoundCloud, Listen Notes, and YouTube. Feedback can be sent via email to [email protected]. If you’d like to be in a future Fan Interview then please drop me an email at [email protected] or message me on Twitter @chvrchespodcast. I am are going to end the podcast with our tradition of playing a recommended song that fits into the very broad genre of “Retro 80s Synth”. If you have a recommended song then please let me know and I will end a future podcast with it. You can now listen to the full list of Retro 80s Synth songs we have recommended since Podcast #1 using Google Play Music and Spotify. Check out the show notes for the current playlists. (http://bit.ly/CFP-Retro-80s-Synth). Today’s song is “Birds Fly” but you might know the song via an alternative version of the song title “Whisper To A Scream” by The Icicle Works.
