My name is Steve Holden and I am recording this podcast in Southern California near San Diego. Today’s podcast is about covering the latest news since the last podcast and it will include a full rundown of all the announced concerts as of the recording of this podcast. That intro song sample started out with the song Get Out via my Google Play Music “Love Is Dead (version 0.9)” playlist and then I looped in a version of Get Out called the Roosevelt Remix which was released on March 23, 2018 along with another remix called the One Bit Remix (which we will hear later). These remixes were part of the news that Chvrches released the STEMS for Get Out so that the song could be remixed by other artists. If you go to YouTube and search on CHVRCHES Get Out you will get a good number of other remixes and mashups with other songs like “I want to get better” by The Bleachers. But I have been told by David in the UK that the answer is ‘Lungs’. So, we will stick with that for the moment. And we will discuss more in a minute. OK there has been a ton of news since the last podcast. I think the the top four items are as follows: 1. Chvrches have announced their North America tour and tickets went on sale on Friday, April 27th. We will cover the complete lineup of currently scheduled concerts later in the podcast. 2. Chvrches released two new song from their upcoming Love Is Dead album that will be out on May 26, 2018. The first was “Miracle” (which we just heard just before this segment) and “Never Say Die” (which we will hear after this segment). Also “Miracle” has two music videos that are very cool to watch. It makes the music even more powerful in my opinion. 3. Chvrches recently did an amazing acoustic session on the Honda Stage at Power Station in NYC. The session include an interview, a cover of the song “XO” and then live versions of Get Out, Never Say Die, and Mother We Share. I highly recommend you check out the show notes for these videos. They are not to be missed. 4. Iain, Martin, and Lauren did a CHVRCHES Ask Me Anything (AMA) segment on Reddit at the end of March 2018. There are over 900 comments. You can read the whole Q&A via the links in the show notes. They also did an AMA in 2014 and there is a pretty active sub-reddit for CHVRCHES on REDDIT. It was released in April of 1983 and reach #4 in the Billboard’s Pop Chart and was #1 in the UK for four weeks. The original guitar chords were adapted to keyboard and those parts were played on a Rhodes Chroma keyboard in the recording studio. Another interesting tidbit about this song is that usually the band used an electric base in the studio but in this case they used a synth-bass keyboard on True in the studio.

Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
