Elec~ronic Gantes Formerly Arcade Express Tl-IE Bl-WEEKLY ELECTRONIC GAMES NEWSLETTER VOLUME TWO, NUMBER NINE DECEMBER 4, 1983 SINGLE ISSUE PRICE $2.00 ODYSSEY EXITS The company that created the home arcading field back in 1970 has de VIDEOGAMING cided to pull in its horns while it takes its future marketing plans back to the drawing board. The Odyssey division of North American Philips has announced that it will no longer produce hardware for its Odyssey standard programmable videogame system. The publisher is expected to play out the string by market ing the already completed "War Room" and "Power Lords" cartridges for ColecoVision this Christmas season, but after that, it's plug-pulling time. Is this the end of Odyssey as a force in the gaming world? Only temporarily. The publisher plans to keep a low profile for a little while until its R&D department pushes forward with "Operation Leapfrog", the creation of N.A.P. 's first true computer. 20TH CENTURY FOX 20th Century Fox Videogames has left the game business, saying, THROWS IN THE TOWEL "Enough is enough!" According to Fox spokesmen, the canny company didn't actually experience any heavy losses. However, the foxy powers-that-be decided that the future didn't look too bright for their brand of video games, and that this is a good time to get out. The company, whose hit games included "M*A*S*H", "MegaForce", "Flash Gordon" and "Alien", reportedly does not have a large in ventory of stock on hand, and expects to experience no large financial losses as it exits the gaming business.

  • August 21-22, 2004
San .Jose, California August 21-22, 2004 $5.00 Welcome to Classic Gaming Expo 2004!!! When this show first opened in 1998 no one really knew what to expect. The concept of "retro" gaming was still relatively new and was far from mainstream. It was a brave new world , where gaming fans worked to bring everyone together for a fun-filled weekend reminding us of how we got so excited about videogames in the first place. This year's event feels like that first time. For the last six years Classic Gaming Expo has taken residence in the glamorous confines of sin city, Las Vegas. It was a great run but recently we began to notice that Las Vegas is, in fact, an island . We could promote the show 24/7 for months but the one thing we could not change is that there are very few native gamers in the area. Everyone attending Classic Gaming Expo was in Las Vegas specifically to attend this show - so unless you were prepared to take a vacation on that weekend , you were going to miss it year in and year out. The move to San Jose not only brings the excitement of a fun-filled gaming weekend to a brave new world, but this brave new world also happens to be the home of videogaming itself. The roots of everything you know and love about this industry sprang not far from this very building. We think it's time to sow some new seeds and build a new home. A place where we can all experience the games, the people, and the excitement that filled our youth, all over again .

ColecoNation | eight | 1 05/12/08 10:31 PM THE BLUE SCREEN Last of the ColecoVisionaries? Last month, I became a charter member of the ColecoVision Video Club (got the by Nathan Kozlowski official letter to prove it) and it only cost me $60 to secure a spot within this elite group. Now the average person (aka: my wife) would probably think I’m crazy to pay what I did for a few pieces of paper, some stickers, and a membership card, but most of you reading this can probably relate to my desire of picking up this fairly uncommon item. Besides, I reasoned with her, I could easily get my money back (and maybe a little more) by reselling it if I were so inclined. There’s no question that this is true, however one wonders who would buy it and for how long would I be able to name my price? We’ve all seen how much the classic gaming community has grown and it’s safe to say that the demand for items related to classic video game systems is stronger now more than ever. It’s interesting to see the average ColecoVision game (mint-in-box) go for prices that compare to when it was initially released and often more. Some of my friends still wonder why I pay $35 for the latest Opcode or AtariAge ColecoVision game when I can get the current systems’ games for half that price or less. The average person is really never going to understand our actions, so it’s safe to say that the majority isn’t contributing to this current growth.
