Cyril was a native of Newcastle West, Co. Limerick and spent his entire service in Mayo Division, serving in Castlebar, Mulranny, Tourmakeady, Ballycastle and Ballina. He was awarded Scott Medals on two occasions for his acts of bravery, which he modestly described
