Interior The following appropriations requests were submitted by Senator Merkley to the Appropriations Committee for consideration as part of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies appropriations bill for fiscal year 2011. Bend Surface Water Project - $2,000,000 EPA, Bend, OR The Surface Water project has three major components: water treatment, pipeline replacement, and hydroelectric development. Funds will be put toward the estimated overall $71,000,000 cost of the project, which is to construct a water treatment plant, replace an 11 mile water pipeline, and install a small hydroelectric facility, gaining 1.2 MW of green power, further defraying the long term cost of the project. The project is required in order to replace aging infrastructure, and comply with EPA LT2 drinking water regulations governing surface water. Eastside Sewer Interceptor Project: Oak to Antler - $1,375,000 City of Redmond, Redmond, OR The east side of Redmond is poised for significant industrial and commercial growth. The City’s Desert Rise Industrial Park (State Certified, 75 shovel ready acres), Pioneer Business Park (40 acre, incubator lots), Crown Mill redevelopment (70 acre former sawmill), Greenway Business Campus (220 acre ―green-themed‖ re-development) and several other planned development or redevelopment projects exist east of US 97 and the BNSF rail line. Full buildout of the east side industrial development cannot occur without construction of a planned large diameter sewer line which parallels the BNSF rail line and intercepts/collects wastewater effluent from all east side development. The project, known as the Eastside Sewer Interceptor Project, will also have the capacity to serve the potential 900-acre large lot Department of State Land (DSL) project south of the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center. -

A middle Eocene microfauna in beds of similar age near Powers was ex Lund and Baldwin ( 1969) and are correlated with the Pearse Peak diorite of Koch ( 1966). Ecoregion: Grasslands 4/16/03 3:46 PM Grasslands INTRODUCTION About 25% of Earth’s land surface is covered by temperate grassland. These large expanses of flat or hilly country cover much of North America, as well as large areas of Europe, Asia, and South America. Most grasslands are found in the interiors of continents, where there is too little rainfall for a forest but too much rain for a desert. ABIOTIC DATA The grassland climate is rather dry, averaging about 20 to 100 centimeters (8–40 inches) of precipitation a year. Summers are very hot and may reach 45°C (113°F). Winter temperatures often fall below freezing, which is 0°C (32°F). -

California State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) 2015 Central California Coast Region Annual and Perennial Grassland Habitat About Our Region and the Grassland Habitat Annual grassland habitats are open grasslands composed primarily of annual plant species such as introduced annual grasses and forbs. Annual grasslands also occur as understory plants in Valley Oak Woodland and other habitats. Perennial grassland habitats occur as coastal prairie and interspersed within annual grasslands. Vernal pools also are an important habitat component of many grassland systems. The structure of grasslands depends upon prevailing weather patterns and grazing. A number of wildlife species spend their entire life within grasslands while others use grasslands for foraging and breeding. What are the sensitive species found in the grassland habitat? PREFACE This bibliography of Klamath Mountains geology was begun, although not in a systematic or comprehensive way, when, in 1953, I was assigned the task of preparing a report on the geology and mineral resources of the drainage basins of the Trinity, Klamath, and Eel Rivers in northwestern California. During the following 40 or more years, I maintained an active interest in the Klamath Mountains region and continued to collect bibliographic references to the various reports and maps of Klamath geology that came to my attention. When I retired in 1989 and became a Geologist Emeritus with the Geological Survey, I had a large amount of bibliographic material in my files. Believing that a comprehensive bibliography of a region is a valuable research tool, I have expended substantial effort to make this bibliography of the Klamath Mountains as complete as is reasonably feasible. My aim was to include all published reports and maps that pertain primarily to the Klamath Mountains, as well as all pertinent doctoral and master's theses. -

South Fork of Little Butte Creek Area Naming Proposals Presented by Dr. Alice G. Knotts INTRODUCTION We begin by thanking the Oregon Geographic Names Board for its careful work exhibited and accomplished in recent years for naming geographical features in the State of Oregon. We have identified some physical features in the area of the South Fork of Little Butte Creek located in Jackson County and put forth name suggestions and proposals. We believe that most of them are located on public lands of the U.S. Forest Service or the BLM, but the Knotts Cliff is on private land. 1 Naming Proposals for the South Fork of Little Butte Creek Area Identified in geographic order of approach from Medford, the road up the South Fork of Little Butte Creek and the Soda Springs trail 1009 that follows upstream Dead Indian Creek that is proposed to be named Latgawa Creek. 1. Hole-in-the-Rock Name a rock arch located on top of a hill NW of Poole Hill. Hole-in-the-Rock has been recorded on a BLM map but not with GNIS. 2. Pilgrim Cave Name a rock shelf with ancient campfire smoked walls. A shelter for travelers for thousands of years. 3. Knotts Bluff Name a cliff that defines the northern side of a canyon through which runs the S. Fork of Little Butte Creek. 4. Ross Point Name a prominent point on Knotts Cliff above the cave. 5. Latgawa Pinnacles Name a group of rocky pinnacles located near Camp Latgawa. 6. Marjorie Falls Name a water slide on Latgawa Creek upstream from the soda springs.
