Here are some popular programming ideas to try this winter: Inside Remember the warm days ahead by showing movies with a summer theme and lots of hot weather. African Cats, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Soul Surfer are all great titles to pair with warm-weather food and summer games like hula-hoop contests, bean bag toss and hopscotch. Hold a “bundled up” fund-raiser. Warm hearts by helping others in need with a winter clothing drive. Spotlight: Calendar Movie in the Park Series – Firestone, CO DECEMBER The Town of Firestone, CO hosted a successful Movie in the Park series this summer, as 07 – Pearl Harbor hundreds of people came out for five evenings of cinema under the stars. While the Movie in Remembrance Day the Park series has been successful for the past five years, this year’s new cosponsors added 21 – First Day of Winter exciting elements to the program including fitness in the park before the screenings. 25 – Christmas 31 – New Year’s Eve The Carbon Valley Recreation District and Anytime Fitness provided fitness fun for attendees before several movies, which added to the family feel for the evening. Before an evening showing of Mary Poppins, the Carbon Valley Recreation District set up fitness activities that tied into the movie theme, including a Chalk Walk, Chimney Sweep, Umbrella Balance Beam JANUARY Walk, “Spoonful of Sugar” Spoon Races, Sack Races and Tug-O-War. 01 – New Year’s Day 20 – Inauguration Day Stephanie Munroe, fitness director for the District, 21 – Martin Luther said, "As a member of the community and King Jr. Day advocate of active family fun, it was heartwarming to see not only children, but adults participating, all with smiles on their faces."
