We will put out the information as soon as it is finalized! Tom and I have gotten our Covid injections and our waiting period is over and we have gone out . Last night we met up with Sylvia and Don Harwick at the casino for dinner. We had a great time and it was good to be around people once again. Then today Don called and wanted to come over to our house and another experience we have not had in some time company at our house. Tom showing Don his new acquisition “The 1964 Ranchero” and just sitting around cutting up, thought I would put this picture in the Chatter. Tom and Don sitting together on the love sit. Sylvia and I were not about to give up our chairs so there they are sitting close. As you can see the Muffin man has grown some new hair on his chin, so now we have another fur face in the club.

  • 2006 Amelia Island Concourse D'elegance by James Dorsey
Flatheads Forever June 2006 2006 Amelia Island Concourse d’Elegance By James Dorsey Every year I say that I’m going to Amelia Island Concourse d’Elegance. This year I went and had a great time. I first went to Savannah, stopping off to visit my daughter and new granddaughter. On Sunday morning March 12, we all drove down to Amelia Island to see the show. The show is held on the golf course of the Ritz Carlton hotel. This made a beautiful setting for all the cars and vendors. The dark green grass with the bright cars and tents made it a perfect place to have a show like this. There were rare and expensive antique and classic cars that you might only see in a special museum. A large number of about 20 Stanley Steamers started the show off with a parade on the green grass. You can only imagine what that looked like with the brightly painted cars with plumes of white steam on the green golf course. This in itself made it worth while to go see. Tucker’s Chip Cofer was there with his 1915 Mitchell Special Six. Early V-8 member Larry Bailey was there with his 7 passenger 1934 Ford sedan. There were several other Early V-8 Fords there, including the rare stainless steel 1936 Ford 2 door sedan. Anyone who loves antique and classic cars would enjoy a day at Amelia Island Concourse d’Elegance. The Editor’s Desk: July Monthly Meeting Sunshine Report!! Mary Ann Padovano has volunteered be The Sunshine Committee for the club.

  • Lean Burn and Stratified Combustion Strategies for Small
LEAN BURN AND STRATIFIED COMBUSTION STRATEGIES FOR SMALL UTILITY ENGINES by CHANDAN MAHATO A DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Graduate School of The University of Alabama TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA 2010 Copyright Chandan Mahato 2010 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ABSTRACT The research presented in this thesis is an effort to improve small engine combustion through the application of lean combustion. The first part of the research is focused on conducting an experimental investigation into the application of lean burn strategy on a single cylinder OHV utility engine to reduce engine-out emissions and at the same time maintain acceptable cyclic variability in combustion. The parameters of interest to investigate cyclic variability in combustion were spark plug variations, load control and charge stratification. The main findings showed that the spark discharge energy had a major influence on engine performance. It was also found that the engine can be operated at a high volumetric efficiency and very lean AFR at 75% and 50% load by the use of fuel injection. This is especially helpful for small engines operating on the EPA B-cycle. The second part of the research deals with the study of a Flat head, also known as side valve (SV) engine platform. A novel approach to lean combustion in a flat head engine is proposed by directly injecting gasoline fuel into the combustion chamber. The main advantage of the direct injection flat head (DIFH) engine over the conventional OHV GDI engine is its simplicity in design, low cost and, greater flexibility in placement of key engine performance hardware in the cylinder head.

  • 1952 Willys Cars Described
1952 WILLYS CARS DESCRIBED GENERAL: The big news for 1952 was the introduction of the Aero Willys line of passenger cars. The Aero was a unit-body car styled by designer Phil Wright and engineered by Clyde Paton. Unit body allowed less weight and more body integrity. The Aero was a clean design, which provided good passenger space, comfort and handling. The styling was totally modern and incorporated all the elements of the latest models offered by the Big Three: "pontoon" slab-sided fenders and doors, even a slight raise at the rear suggesting a fin. The hood and trunk were smoothly integrated into the car, and the front grille was mostly unadorned but had a chrome cross bar with a large "W" above it. The bar helped widen the appearance and accentuated the smooth lines of the car. At the rear, the trunk would also feature a "W" and the model name under it. Four separate models were offered in the Aero line: Aero Lark, the entry level model; Aero Wing, offering additional features, Aero Ace, and the Aero Eagle. The Wing, Ace and Eagle hardtop used the Willys designed F-head "Super Hurricane six-cylinder engine, while the Lark used the older "Lightning Six" L-Head I-6. The Willys passenger cars were capable of up to 35 mpg fuel economy. The Aero Ace with the F-head engine took second place among all cars in Motor Trend magazine's 1952 Engineering Achievement Award. WILLYS AERO LARK - The Aero-Lark was the base car of the line and was the least expensive.
