As being one of the youngest and the most dynamic public UNIKA universities of our country heading for global education and international progress, UNIKA is located in Karabuk on the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey. Safranbolu, 8 km away from Karabuk, famous for its ancient historical wooden Ottoman Houses many of which are under legal protection and used as pensions, is in “the List of World Heritage Cities” by the UNESCO.

UNIKA Iron and Steel Institute (KISI)

The University of Karabuk Iron and Steel Institute (KISI) aims to provide a scientific medium for the researchers in iron and steel industry in order to make advances.

The researches in KISI are proposed to focus on development of new strategies on production of iron and steel, in increasing of products qualities and production of high value-added steels, recycling of wastes, increasing of efficiency in iron steel plants, on making researches in effective and efficient use of domestic raw material and ores.

Since its establishment, the University of Karabuk has been carrying out numerous university -industry cooperation projects that can set an example for our country with KARDEMİR, ASELSAN, Presidency of Defence Industries, Turkish State Railways (TCDD), Ministry of Environment and other institutions and industrial organizations.

The Factory That Constructs Factories: KARDEMİR The foundations of Kardemir that is the first integrated iron and steel factory of Turkey. Kardemir actualised the project designing, manifacturing and installation of a large number of major industrial plants by leading our country’ s industrial enterprises. Therefore; It is known in Turkey as “the factory establishing factories” and memorialized by this name. The role model in the University-Industry Collaboration Doors of the factory have been wide open to the scholars in an attempt to commercialize the scientific studies to be done in the company by converting them into added values and also on the purpose of bringing the academic members together with the execution area.

Karabuk University Technology Development Zone

As an organized research and business center, where academic, economic and social infrastructure meets, Technopark hosts universities, research institutions and industrial enterprises together in the same environment and facilitates them to do research, development and innovation activities through mutual transfer of know-how and technology for the sake of realizing value-added products. Karabuk University Technology Development Zone started to be established on August 02, 2018. There are 10 R&D companies now. After the establishment is over, there will be 25 R&D companies in total and also incubation and pre-incubation companies. 9 GLOBALIZATION STATUS

10 International Recognition

UNIKA is a public university which offers BA, MA, MSc, PhD programme studies, intended to be compatible with the requirements implies by the Bologna Process.

UNIKA holds a valid (2014-2020) Erasmus Extended Charter and has been awarded Diploma Supplement Label (DS) 2011-2014 and ECTS Label 2013-2016 by European Commission.

Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Its budget of €14.7 billion will provide opportunities Mevlana Exchange Programme is run and funded for over 4 million Europeans to study, train by Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) and gain experience, and volunteers abroad. UNIKA produces its own electrical energy by the solar panels that are placed on the roofs and side walls.

The solar panels are placed on 10.000 meter square and they produce the %50 need of electricity that is used in our university and in summer %70.

12 CAMPUS LIFE

Students at KBU participate in the various activities such as rescreational sport clubs, cultural, chess club, folk dances club, drama clubs, dance clubs, and photography club. Student can find ways of entertainment to meet their needs by joining one of these clubs. There are volleyball, basketball and tennis courts and 25000 seating capacity football stadium. And also there are different sports teams Bicycle group, teakwondo team, basketball team, volleyball team, boxing team, table tennis, canoe team, diving team and rafting team.

Every year graduation ceremonies with the participation of families are held at UNIKA’s football stadium having 25000 seating capacity and concerts are given by very well known singers. 13

ABOUT CITY

arabuk city was founded on 3rd April 1937, as the seat of K the iron and steel industry of Turkey. After the foundation of the Iron - Steel Factory Karabük started to grow rapidly and its name became popular all around Turkey. In 1953, it became a district of Safranbolu and later in 1995 Karabük became an official province center of Turkey. Hadrianapolis (now Eskipazar) is an ancient city from the Roman Empire of the 4th century, located about 3 kms away from Karabük. There are many fountains, churches, and Roman baths.

Safranbolu (A World heritage City of UNESCO)

The most important element, which brought Safranbolu forward in our country and in the world at the scope of the culture tourism, is the Safranbolu houses constructed in the style of the traditional Turkish architecture. These houses are attractive both in the scope of urban positions and their architecture styles. There are approximately 2000 traditional Turkish houses at the district center constructed at the beginning of 18th and 19th century.
