Pen Pals. 15 members of the congregation have been writing letters to the children of the church. Each adult has agreed to write one letter a week to four different kids. These kids have loved getting special mail and forming new connections at FPC. Want to get involved? Get ahold of Kathie Douma or Rev. Pat Hammond. 3. Special Home visits. This weekend, Sunday School teacher Jonathan Tilk visited each of the kids in his Sunday School class. Kids were excited to receive a cool drawstring backpack but delighted to see their teacher at their front door! Summer Plans: The Children’s Ministry Team has voted to cancel Summer Music Camp. Vacation Bible School will not be held at the church, but curriculum will be shared with families to participate in some kind of VBS at home or possibly in small groups. Please be patient as we adjust our plans. We are just as disappointed as you but the Children’s Ministry Team wants to do everything we can to help lead the way for kids to return to school in the fall as well as to protect our children, families and volunteers. BIBLIOTHECA SACRA 152 (July-September 1995) 306-17 THE RAPTURE AND AN EARLY MEDIEVAL CITATION τ Timothy J. Demy and Thomas D. Ice m^Lm he primary justification for belief in the rapture is grounded in biblical exegesis coupled with theological deduction, but such belief is not without historical witnesses. This testimony can be found, in part, in the Byzantine apocalyptic tradition of the fourth to eighth centuries in eschatological writings that have thus far received little attention from evangelical scholars. The clearest such writing is a sermon by Pseudo-Ephraem known as On the Last Times, the Antichrist, and the End of the World or Sermon on the End of the World (written sometime between the fourth and seventh centuries).1 This sermon, besides being a vivid example of early medieval apocalyptic homiletics, also includes a statement of a concept similar to the rapture more than one thousand years before the writings of John Nelson Darby.

  • Summer 2018 Dear Readers, the Adult Summer Reading Challenge
Summer 2018 Dear Readers, The Adult Summer Reading Challenge list has been posted in the bulletin and online here: Books and Bagels. Many categories are self explanatory, but we realize not all may be: especially if you are new to the faith or new to studying/reading about it! To that end, we provide the following list. A few disclaimers: we do not get reimbursed in any way for any links contained herein (though if we link to another list, check their policy to see if they received a small percentage of any purchase). This list is not THE list, as a definitive one does not exist. As you'll be quite aware, many classics are written by male authors, such is our history. If you are reading for an eye to the raffle entries, you'll want to know WHAT TITLES COUNT? Any on this list of course, but it is not limited to this list either. You may select anything that fits the category - if you have questions, call our director Kristi at 239-261-5831. The point, though, is not to trip you up but for all of us to have fun reading. Use the challenge to discover new authors or genres in Catholic influence, and to discuss them with friends or the Books & Bagels meeting in September 2018. And yes, audio books count! **** Category 1 - Two Old Testament books (find them online here). We suggest Tobit, Jonah, Esther or even Job: all short narratives that can have spiritual gems without studying their history or authorship (though that would add to the insights of course).

  • MARK REIGHARD WILL PRESENT CHRISTMAS MUSICAL PROGRAM at ASP LUNCHEON DECEMBER 14 by James R
Vol. 8 No. 4_________________________________________________________________ December 1990 "THE AWESOME" MARK REIGHARD WILL PRESENT CHRISTMAS MUSICAL PROGRAM AT ASP LUNCHEON DECEMBER 14 by James R. (Bob) Emmel Recently while visiting in the reception lounge of the SNU College of Music, I queried a student if he knew Professor Reighard and the reply was, "I sure do; that guy is awesome." Certainly my few experiences of hearing Professor Reighard perform-in programs of light, humorous entertainment, or sacred sanctuary music, or as a guest pianist with a symphonic orchestra--this writer's reaction is, "Professor Reighard is an awesome performer." Dr. Reighard has been a Professor of Piano and Fine Arts at SNU since 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree at SNU and a Master and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees at OU. He has been given the SNU Student Award for Excellence in Teaching and honored with the SNU Outstanding Alumni Award. His tenure for the past twenty-five years as church pianist and organist has been Mark Reighard with several of Oklahoma City's largest churches and he currently serves as organist at OKC First Church of the Nazarene. Through the years Reighard has performed hundreds of concerts at banquets, conferences, retreats, church, and school functions throughout the U.S. He is noted for his comedic style, his compositions, and arrangements of contemporary and traditional church music. It is a singular delight and privilege for the Academy of Senior Professionals (ASP) to be honored at this Christmas season by Dr. Reighard's musical program on Monday, December 14, 11:30 a.m.

Westminster Christian School Summer 2016 Mr. Reed The Bible as Literature Syllabus Summer 2016 I. Class Overview The Bible is a story. Actually it claims to be “the Story”. It begins in a garden and ends in a garden. The middle flows around one main character, Jesus. But this larger Story is made up of smaller stories, told in different ways by different people, and yet all pointing to the larger narrative. This class has been developed to teach students how better to read these stories as literature in order that they might understand the Story more fully. Much of your time will be spent reading secondary sources. Some of the required articles are pretty easy. Others are a little more difficult. They may (and should) stretch you. But, if you are taking this as an independent study, my expectation is that you will be willing to work diligently toward understanding. II. Course Goals A. To identify the various genre (literary forms) in the Bible and to learn how to read and study each appropriately. B. To learn to appreciate the “story-telling” within the biblical text C. To study sample passages in the Bible that represent many of the 1 The Bible as Literature 2016-2017 genres that have been identified D. To learn to “find” Jesus within the larger Story of the Bible III. Class Texts A. Several assigned readings B. One novel of the student’s choice C. The Bible IV.
