African referees welcomed at CEV Youth Volleyball Championships

Two international ref- erees from Africa had the chance to referee matches at the 2011 CEV Youth Vol- leyball European Champi- onships which concluded with the girls’ event on May 8 in Ankara, Turkey.

Walid Abdel-Samad of Egypt was as- signed to the boys’ tournament, which was also held in Ankara, while André Jean-Jacques Mboumteke of Cameroon officiated at the girls’ event.

The initiative comes directly from the CEV and CAVB’s close cooperation project which was first outlined at a joint meeting held in Luxembourg last year.

Following that meeting, two represent- atives from Africa joined the inaugural women’s referees’ seminar in last year, prior to this recent collaboration.
