London Portsmouth Normandy Paris World War LONDON PORTSMOUTH NORMANDY PARIS MUNICH WORLD WAR II IN DEPTH June 18-27, 2019 Park Tudor School’s Legacy Initiative Project welcomes members of the Park Tudor community, alumni, students and friends for an extraordinary trip from London to Munich to experience the history-changing events on the Western Front 1939-1945—this is a great way to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. Information Session Tuesday, Aug. 28 6 PM US 229 (Please rsvp to [email protected]) or call Kathryn Lerch at 317-251-8661 for more information This trip in primarily intended for adults, but students who are highly motivated to learn more about WWII in Europe, are also encouraged to apply. Students who wish to practice their French/German language skills, love history, or have participated in the WWII Military History electives in 2017 or 2018—this is a great opportunity. The trip is tentatively scheduled for June 18-27, 2019. In order to guarantee an important trip discount of $100, one should register prior to Oct 1st. In order to guarantee our own bus and departure date, 25 registrations must be done prior to Oct. 1st. Our departure city will be Indianapolis, unless participants wish to arrange independent flights to/from Europe. Attached is a trip flyer PDf with detailed information. See additional information about optional monthly evening sessions for adults/students, or other aspects of this trip, see page 3. Kathryn Lerch has led three earlier WWII trips to Europe. She has taught World Civ/European history and German for more than twenty years at PT; she continues to teach Military History and is the director of the Legacy Initiative Project. Email: [email protected] home phone: 317-251-8661 Note: Students/parents must complete a brief pre-registration form and then be approved by the school administration/business office prior to registering with ACIS. Forms will be available on 8/28 or by request through email. This will be an exceptional tour, especially with centrally located 3-4 star hotels and some wonderful local food, and special guides. 2017 WWII Trip travelers Jim & Jody Turner, Pat & Vinton Dove and others joined a similar tour—but this tour promises to be even better! Kathryn Lerch The special early enrollment date is October 1st, 2018. Enrolling by this deadline allows you to take advantage of the $100 Early Registration Discount we currently have on the trip, so please don’t miss this deadline if you are serious about participating. We are planning in advance to ensure that this opportunity is affordable and available to as many students as possible. In addition to leaving more time to plan and save, this early deadline offers the lowest price available for our program and the opportunity to “lock in” departure fees. Enrollment by October 1st, 2018 guarantees that you will see no price increases, as it means ACIS will be covering any potential fuel cost increases by our date of departure, for early enrollees. We selected this tour with value and budgets in mind. The program is designed to include as much as possible up front, so that we both maximize our time abroad and avoid costs overseas. I am happy to take the time to coordinate this program, because I believe this opportunity will be a life changing experience for your children. It is a rare chance to explore beyond the classroom, and I hope everyone can participate. Please be mindful of the upcoming deadline and let me know if you have any questions as we approach it. Here is the link to our trip website http://www.acis.com/tripsite/?key=RFJjUDZxSFYzOGpTRHBPZWZZOD0%3D&code=WHS On it you can review all the important details as well. Adults may enroll by clicking on the yellow “Register Now” button at the top of the page and using my group id: 91527 and last name: Lerch Students must complete a pre-registration form first. The turn-around on this will be quick. Best, Kathryn Lerch Optional Adult Monthly Evening Discussion Sessions 2017-2018 There will be monthly evening sessions for registered adult travelers. Meetings will include information about travel to England, France, and Austria, but the focus will be military history topics. There will be opportunities for group discussions based on the reading list. These meetings will provide a good historical foundation. It is also imperative that everyone attend the few required meetings so that when we depart mid-June 2019, we will travel smoothly and safely! • Developing Snowpack Models in the Kalkhochalpen Region
DEVELOPING SNOWPACK MODELS IN THE KALKHOCHALPEN REGION Dissertation Zur Erlangung des Doktorgrades an der Naturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Salzburg eingereicht von KENNETH WAYNE FORSYTHE Salzburg, Mai 1999 © Kenneth Wayne Forsythe 1999 ABSTRACT Developing Snowpack Models in the Kalkhochalpen Region: An Example from the Berchtesgaden National Park, Germany The seasonal snowpack in mid-latitude mountain ranges has implications for a wide variety of matters including drinking water, hydroelectric power, irrigation, and recreation. Snowcover distribution in mountainous areas varies widely due to topographic, landcover, and climatic/environmental factors. Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, remotely sensed satellite imagery, and multiple regression statistical techniques are increasingly being utilized to facilitate the estimation of a wide range of snowcover characteristics. Elevation data allow for the determination of topographic factors while satellite data are useful in the estimation of landcover state/status and snow-covered area. The methodology used in this research was developed in order to interpolate snow distribution based on statistically estimated models. The fundamental idea is that regions with similar topographic, landcover, and climatic conditions will have closely matching snowcover characteristics. The application of these techniques and this knowledge has many advantages including the possibility of estimating snow distribution in problem areas such as forests, steeper slopes, and shadow zones where satellite sensors have difficulties in directly estimating snowpack conditions. The empirical data consisted of 94 snow survey points where snow depth and snow-water equivalent (SWE) were measured for the January to April period from 1989 to 1994. The data were split into weekly groupings (not all of the sample points were measured during each snow survey).

The limestone has Berchtesgaden National Park been exposed to dissolution processes since the Cretaceous, leading to a massive karstified aquifer with a wide range of subsurface flow channels. There are hundreds of springs as groundwater recharge locations, feeding the seven rivers of the region Mountain range that contribute to the Danube watershed. Several studies were conducted to exam- ine the hydro-geological conditions and the resulting groundwater flow. This paper Alps aims to evaluate and summarize research in the basin describing groundwater flow to identify the main drainage direction, travel times, spring dynamics and possible Country subsurface redistribution in the individual mountain ranges and the whole basin. To this end, we evaluate several tracer experiments, two isotope studies and a spring Germany database. The tracer experiments are generating knowledge about flow directions in the individual mountain ranges, groundwater redistribution, water storage and mean travel times. Five experiments prove increased groundwater flow remaining within a valley and four experiments indicate groundwater redistribution through mountain ranges.
