Fyt Fyt O O O O O Abcmaskell@Mail.Dk Paper to be presented at the DRUID 2012 on June 19 to June 21 at CBS, Copenhagen, Denmark, fyt fyt o o o o o [email protected] Abstract tog tog Jelcodes:R21,- 1) Christiania The society around and about Christiania has shown great interest in seeing and hearing a little more about the "remarkable - exciting - scary - different - alternative" and the name given by the Danish government - "The Social Experiment" - Christiania. Christiania has always placed great importance on our relationship with society at large and so it is natural for us to look after our guests. Everyone who knows or has heard of Christiania knows that there are many different 'truths' about the independent state. On a guided tour led by a 'born' christianit, both samll and large groups get a real insight into Christiania's structure and history and at the same time hear the guide's own 'truth' about Christiania. Christiania is a survival success, especially because of the great enthusiasm of all the different people who throughout the years have given thousands of hours of voluntary work in the belief that Christiania is worth protecting, often in the face of opposition from both within and without. Everyone is given a short factual historic summary, but after that guests receive an individual account of the Christiania story based upon the guides own experience, which makes each tour a unique event. Tour guides are the living history, they have lived here, have seen it all happen, and many have been here since the very beginning. Last year's guided tour will not be the same as this year's! 2) Ørestad Experience a part of the new town Ørestad. Ørestad is one of Scandinavias biggest urban development projects. When completed circa 2030 it will be a city for 25.000 inhabitants and 80.000 work places. The northern district is home for the southern campus of Copenhagen University and the young IT-University. Hear about the history, the masterplan and how you development a new city with a Copenhagen take. How do you plan a varied and mixed city from the beginning? And how do you create a good city life and how can make sustainable solutions on the planning level? Ørestad consist of high quality architecture. The big Danish architectural companies: Henning Larsen, Dissing+Wietling, Vilhelm Lauritzen, Lundgaard & Tranberg, 3XN and Big are present together with international studios as Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster and Daniel Liebeskind. The tour will pass by interesting project like: - DR Byen, Koncerthuset, Architect: Jean Nouvel; 2009 - IT University, Architect: Henning Larsen Architects, 2004 - Tietgenkollegiet (Student house), Architect: Lundgaard & Tranberg; 2006 - VM Husene (residential); Architect: PLOT; 2005 - Bjerget (residential); Architect: PLOT (BIG and JDS); 2008 - Bella Sky Hotel; Architect: 3XN; 2011 The Magic Blue Box (Tbc) This tour takes you to a specific part of the new Ørestaden. The DR Concert Hall was designed by world-renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, who imagined a meteor having hit and added vibrant life to the new Ørestad district, most of which had yet to be fully developed. The exterior of the building is a 45-metre-high rectangular box whose interior is a true Mecca for musicians and music lovers alike. Jean Nouvel’s unique building puts Copenhagen on a level with other cities around the world which provide the best modern acoustic and visual setting for concertgoers. As you approach Koncerthuset a fabulous sight greets you. The blue frontage is monumental, yet airy, as if the building had been carved out of the sky. The frontage is a semi-transparent screen and the images projected onto the vast surfaces create constantly varying impressions which make the whole structure look as if it is in motion, organic and alluring. The foyer of the Concert Hall is a single large space spread out on seven levels of the building. It contains twenty-five video projectors and fifty slide projectors used to project pictures onto the surfaces of the room. In accordance with the architect’s wishes, the concrete was cast using a special technique called ‘elephant skin’ that creates distinctive folds in the concrete surface. Studio 1 – also called the concert hall – is the largest hall in the building and will primarily be used for symphonic music. The 28,000 m3 room, which seems to float on a number of stair towers at the heart of the building, is laid out as an amphitheatre, with the stage at the centre and seating for the audience on staggered podiums on all sides of the stage. The concert hall, whose golden colours were inspired by the sunset in ‘The Scream’ painting by Edward Munch, has room for an audience of 1,800 people. Read more about the Big Blue Box that have just been nominated to the Mies Van den Roche price. 4) Medical Museion Medical Museion is located in the original Royal Academy of Surgeons from 1787. The heart of this neoclassical building is its magnificent auditorium where students attended lectures and demonstration. This museum can thanks to a collaboration with Novo Nordisk present a very interesting and groundbreaking display of Danish Biomedicine 1955-2005: Integrating Medical Museology and the Historiography of Recent Biomedicine The guided tour takes you through this historical building with exhibitions that focus on the history and culture of medicine from the antique to today. The museum have won prizes excellent in communicate the story and development of modern medicine. 5) Shopping Galleri K - Pilestræde, Antonigade and Kristen Bernikows Gade Explore Copenhagen's new exclusive shopping district, Galleri K with popular Danish designers, By Marlene Birger and DAY or try out American Urban Outfitters, and the lingerie of Agent Provocateur Furthermore this is where you find Adidas Originals, Replay, Designers Remix and others. Adelgade, Grønnegade, Ny Østergade and Kronprinsensgade Strøget is the longest pedestrian street in the world beginning at Kongens Nytorv, you make a small detour away from Strøget, you reach the charming area around Grønnegade with Tudor houses refurbished into exclusive boutiques. Especially shoes you will find in this district. Another detour takes you to "Copenhagen fashion street". Named thus because of the many fashion designers that have chosen this location. Bruuns Bazaar, Flying A and Stig P. who sell several hip foreign labels. Georg Jensen & Royal Copenhagen Are you more into interior desing you nned to go to Illums Bolighus, the Mecca of interior design. Here you can purchase unique Scandinavian 'pearls' such as Rosendahl, Stelton, Eva Trio and Grand Cru and numerous other international designer goods. 6) Just hanging out Another unique Danish experience is to go to Nyhavn. Ships from all over the world anchored here and life in the harbor area was dominated by seamen, public houses, girls and parties. The New Harbor became known as 'Nyhavn' (Newharbour)- one word instead of two. The pretty, crooked, old houses, where in times gone by tradesmen occupied, have been beautifully renovated into cosy indoor and outdoor restaurants. Business people, tourists and lots of other people come to Nyhavn to enjoy a wonderful atmosphere, excellent culinary delights, a cold beer and jazz music. Chit chat and laughter fill the harbor with life and captivate the nostalgia Conference Dinner Thursday, June 16, 19.30 – 22.30 Dress code: Nice formal The conference dinner will this year take place in the beautiful foyer, at The Royal Danish Playhouse, situated on the harbor front just,10 minutes stroll down the Newhaven from Metro Kongens Nytov. The Playhouse is an effective ‘theatre-machine’ that takes form as a pronounced, yet respectful completion of the surrounding city. The oak-clad promenade, a public walk floating on thin columns over the water, gives access to the foyer with its panoramic views of the harbor and historic skyline. The scene building, containing the auditorium and three scenes, echoes the material character of the harbor front with rustic brickwork and copper-clad tower. The expansive and unifying roof level contains personnel facilities and gives spectacular views in all directions through varying nuances of green glass. The Royal Playhouse is designed by the Danish architectural practice Lundgaard & Tranberg and received a RIBA European Award in 2008 for its architecture as well as a Red dot design award for the design of the chairs. Read more about the building here The house is a busy house and we are sharing the Playhouse and Ofelia Beach after with the World Premiere of Tribute – Pulse. Through image and sound Morrison and Christensen have created a requiem for the 20th century - the persistence of a pulse, the contractions of the heart. The piece can hereafter be experienced in a large scale 22x22x22 m mirror reflecting Montana box . After the dinner the DRUIDS are invited to join the cocktail bar on the deck and arranged by Ofelia Beach (not include in the fee). Linus E, a part of Wobble Squad is a Copenhagen based dubstep soundsystem, is playing smooth and liquid wobbling bass tunes! The unique underground sound of Copenhagen combined with massive dubstep tunes is what Wobble Squad is all about! Enjoy! .
