NINE TEAMS IN POSTSEASON ARIZONA REACHES ELITE EIGHT

The Pac-12 placed six teams in the NCAA Tournament, with another three teams playing in the NIT and CBI. The six teams in the NCAA Tournament match the league record six that participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The Pac-12 posted an 8-6 record in NCAA Tournament play, with ARIZONA advancing to the Elite Eight for the second time in four years.

Arizona posted its fifth 30-win season on the way to its 13th conference title. The Wildcats were ranked in the AP top five each week since Nov. 18, includ- ing an eight-week stretch at No. 1.

UCLA captured their fourth Pac-12 Tournament crown with one of the most memorable championship game in years, as it defeated Arizona 75-71 before a capacity crowd of 12,916 fans. Arizona trailed by as much as 11 points in the first half, before cutting the deficit to four points at halftime. In a back- and-forth second half, neither team led by more than five points. In fact, both teams did not make a field goal for a four-minute stretch late in the game until Jordan Adams hit a three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining to break a 68- 68 tie to give the Bruins the lead for good at 71-68. Both teams played nearly flawless basketball as the two teams combined for just 15 turnovers.

On March 31, CALIFORNIA head coach announced his retirement. In 32 seasons as a collegiate head coach, he captured 677 career victories and exits the game as the 25th-winningest head men’s basketball coach with at least 10 years of experience at the Division I level in NCAA history. He ranks third on the Pac-12’s all-time conference victories list be- hind Arizona’s and UCLA’s with 282 league wins. Arizona guard Nick Johnson (16.3 ppg/4.1 rpg) earned Pac-12 Player of the Year honors, then went on to collect consensus first team All-America STANFORD junior G Anthony Brown picked up Pac-12 Most Improved Player honors (The Sporting News, USBWA, NABC, John Wooden). Freshman team- honors. Brown, who had a career average of 6.6 ppg entering the season, was mate Aaron Gordon (12.4 ppg/8.0 rpg) picked up Pac-12 Freshman of the third on the team averaging 12.3 ppg.
