TONIGHT’S GAME – TORONTO at BUFFALO – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2019

This is Buffalo’s fourth of six preseason games after the team opened camp on Thursday, Sept. 12; it is the first of two games at from KeyBank Center during the preseason. Tonight’s matchup is being broadcast on MSG and WGR 550 in Western New York.

The Sabres are back home tonight after starting the preseason with 5-4 win against the at Penn State University and then dropping road games at Columbus and Toronto. Through three preseason contests, the team is currently being led by a three- output (1+2) from Conor Sheary. Six different players have scored for Buffalo, with the team getting goals from Jack Eichel, John Gilmour, Henri Jokiharju, Jake McCabe, Sheary and .

Buffalo and Toronto have played 78 preseason games all-time, including at least one game in every preseason since their first preseason meeting in 1974. The Sabres are 36-34-8 in preseason contests against the Maple Leafs: 14-13-5 at home and 16-20-3 at Toronto. Seven of the 78 preseason games between the Sabres and Maple Leafs have been played at neutral-site venues, with the Sabres winning six; the team’s only neutral-site loss in the all-time series came at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto in 2017.

The Sabres and Maple Leafs conclude their home-and-home series tonight after Toronto’s 3-0 win last night at . The teams will meet next in November, when they play the first two of their four regular-season matchups in another home-and-home series that begins on Friday, Nov. 29 in Buffalo and concludes the next night in Toronto.

The Sabres are 157-167-53 all-time in the preseason, including a 44-31-7 preseason record since the 2005-06 season. These totals only include games against NHL opponents; the Sabres also defeated Adler Mannheim 8-3 in an exhibition game as part of the 2011 NHL Premiere Series.

Buffalo will open the regular season on the road against the Penguins on Thursday, Oct. 3, before returning home for a game against the on Saturday, Oct. 5. The team will celebrate the beginning of its “Golden Season” at the home opener with several of the franchise’s previous team captains, and fans in attendance will receive a commemorative 50th season T-shirt.
