Mai 2019 – FACHPRESSE Neues Areal für Familien im Themenpark Dollywood eingeweiht eptemberDolly Parton 2018 eröffnet „Wildwood Grove“ An Familien mit Kindern zwischen vier und elf Jahren wendet sich das neue Areal Wildwood Grove des Themenparks Dollywood im Südstaat Tennessee. Mit 37 Millionen Dollar, umgerechnet rund 33 Millionen Euro, handelt es sich um die größte Einzelinvestition in der 33jährigen Geschichte von Dollywood. Sie ist Teil eines 300 Millionen Dollar teuren Ausbau-Plans, der 2013 bekannt gegeben wurde. Die Country Music-Ikone Dolly Parton hat das neue, gut zwei Hektar große Areal Wildwood Grove in den Smoky Mountains von Tennessee am 10. Mai eingeweiht. Für das allgemeine Publikum folgte darauf ein ganzes Eröffnungswochenende. Dollywood, an dem Dolly Parton als die Namensgeberin auch geschäftlich beteiligt ist, gilt schon immer als besonders familienfreundlich und konnte 2010 die Auszeichnung als bester Themenpark der Welt erringen, den Applause Award: alle zwei Jahre vergeben vom Weltverband der Themenparks IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions). Der Park liegt in der Bergstadt Pigeon Forge am Rande des meistbesuchten Nationalparks der USA, Great Smoky Mountains. Die mehr als 60 Hektar große Anlage verbindet auf einzigartige Weise Achterbahnen und andere „Rides“ von Weltklasse mit Country Music auf mehreren Bühnen sowie mit Einblicken in die Kultur des Appalachengebirges. Zu sehen sind auch Handwerksvorführungen von der Schmiedekunst bis zum Seifenkochen. Zum Park gehören zudem authentische Südstaaten-Küche und Festivals. Ältere Kinder und Jugendliche kommen in Dollywood schon immer voll auf ihre Kosten: mit rasend schnellen Achterbahnen, Wasserrutschen oder einem Schwerelosigkeits- Fallturm. Die ganz Kleinen vergnügen sich im beschaulichen Jahrmarkt Country Fair. Die Vier- bis Elfjährigen aber waren bisher oft zu groß oder zu klein, um den ganzen Spaß zu haben. Sollte es zu viel werden, steht ein 370 Quadratmeter großer Raum „Hidden Hollow“ mit nur wenigen Rutschen und Klettergeräten zur Verfügung, in dem die Kinder schnell wieder zur Ruhe kommen und die Eltern durchschnaufen können. Der klimatisierte Raum dient auch zum Abkühlen, wenn die Südstaatensonne die Luft zum Flimmern bringt. Dolly Parton will mit Wildwood Grove einen Rahmen schaffen, in dem Eltern Qualitätszeit mit ihren Kindern verbringen. Inspiriert war sie von ihrer eigenen Kindheit in den Wäldern der Smoky Mountains, wo sie in sehr einfachen Verhältnissen aufwuchs. „Wir haben ein Areal geschaffen, in denen Träume wahr werden, wie wir hatten, als ich noch klein war.“ 400 Bäume und 2300 Büsche wurden gepflanzt. Den Mittelpunkt bildet ein künstlicher Baum, der Wildwood Tree, in dem 650 beleuchtete Schmetterlinge zuhause sind. Neben dem Themenpark, der 1986 als Neustart eines Vorgängers aus dem Jahr 1961 eröffnete und mittlerweile jährlich 2,5 Millionen Besucher zählt, gehören zum Dollywood- Komplex seit 2001 der mittlerweile 17 Hektar umfassende Wasserpark Splash Country, seit 2015 das Themenhotel DreamMore Resort & Spa mit Design-Anleihen bei Dolly Parton und die Ferienhäuser Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Cabins im Blockhaus-Stil. _____________________________________________________________________ Die redaktionelle Verwendung ist honorarfrei und genehmigt.
