Una proposta de jazz d'origen francès conegut també com jazz manouche, creada als anys 20 per Django Reinhardt i Stéphane Grappelli del Hot Club de France. Acordió, guitarres, violí i contrabaix confereixen una sonoritat especial que agermana la música clàssica europea i el jazz de manera magistral i única. Sis solistes de ?jazz manouche Ludovic Beier està dotat d'una tècnica excepcional, ha portat l'acordió per nous camins, a més de treballar amb els grans noms de l'escola gypsy manouche com Angelo Debarre, Dorado Schmitt, Costel Nitescu o Florin Niculescu. Sebastian Gramss - Kontrabass Der in Köln beheimatete ECHO-Preisträger 2013 ist einer der international profiliertesten und kreativsten Vertreter an den Schnittstellen von Neuer Musik, improvisierter Musik und Jazz. Neben seinen aktuellen Projekten „SLOWFOX“ und „SEBASTIAN GRAMSS STATES OF PLAY“ arbeitete er als Instrumentalist mit Marilyn Crispell, Fred Frith, Tom Cora, Elliott Sharp, Peter Kowald, Peter Brötzmann, Rudi Mahall u.v.a. Er initiierte das bis zu 50-köpfige Kontrabass-Orchester „BASSMASSE“, entwickelt neue Spieltechniken auf seinem Instrument und wird dem Abend ein virtuoses Fundament bescheren. Anastasija Delidova Konzeptionelle Multimedia-Künstlerin aus Essen. Sie arbeitet mit musik-reaktiven Videoinstallationen, Projektion, Animation, Musikvideos und Bühnendesign. Delidova graduierte an der Folkwang Hochschule der Künste im Studiengang Transdisziplinäre Gestaltung und wird den Bühnenraum visuell einzigartig transformieren. Salim Javaid Als Vertreter der jüngeren Generation und Sproß einer tschechisch-pakistanischen Familie aus Sokolov (CZ) ist er mittlerweile ein Aktivposten der Kölner Improvisationsszene und feierte bereits internationale Erfolge mit dem Trio MALSTROM. Hun er en av våre fremste og mest anerkjente sangere og har gjennom ti år som plateartist satt tydelige spor hos både publikum og presse over hele verden. Hun er på god vei mot å bli allemannseie i norsk musikk, og synger for et stadig voksende publikum. Det er gått to år siden suksessalbumet ”Tarpan Seasons” og i høst er Solveig Slettahjell endelig aktuell med nytt album. Da er albumet Solveig Slettahjell har gledet seg til i lang tid klart. Sammen med pianist Morten Qvenild har hun plukket ut egne favoritter fra musikkhistorien til et album som blir intimt, nært og veldig veldig vakkert! Solveig Slettahjell har alltid sunget, og har gjennom årene befattet deg med et bredt utvalg sjangere, først og fremst jazz og jazzrelatert musikk, men også mye musikk fra singer/songwriter- tradisjonen. I tillegg er det nære forholdet til norske samler og amerikanske spirituals fra oppveksten fortsatt klart tilstedeværende i uttrykket hennes. Hun og medmusikerne skriver det meste av sin musikk selv, men Slettahjell anser først og fremst seg selv som sanger - noe hennes publikum gjenkjenner i hennes personlige og sterke tolkninger både av egen og av andres musikk. Som få andre greier hun å gjøre alt hun synger til sitt eget. Om det er originalkomposisjoner, popklassikere, viser, gamle spirituals eller julesanger er Slettahjells stemme en krystallklar og personlig avsender. Slow Motion Orchestra (tidl. Quintet) har vært Slettahjells hovedprosjekt siden første konsert sammen på Osloklubben ”Blå” i 2001. Opptak fra denne konserten ble også debutalbumet ”Slow Motion Orchestra”. -

NILS LANDGREN FUNK UNIT ›FUNK IS MY RELIGION‹ New Album ›Funk is my Religion‹ available on May 28th via ACT Back in 1994 when Nils Landgren started up his Funk Unit, there were those who asked whether there was actually any need for Swedish funk. After seventeen years, ten albums and several hundreds of concerts, the question has basically answered itself: to find the most fired-up take on this music anywhere, a sound which is inextricably welded into soul, rhythm and blues and jazz, and in which all of the instruments – and the vocals too – have an irresistible rhythmic urgency about them, this is definitely the band to see and hear. And if one turns to the pioneers, godfathers and grandees of the funk world – Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, the musical prime movers behind James Brown, Ray Parker Jr., or Joe Sample from the Crusaders – then there’s no need to look any further: each and every one of them has played with the Funk Unit. And the Funk Unit’s story is far from over. Not even this pandemic was going to hold back their eleventh album. »Originally we wanted to record at Palma Studios in Mallorca, but Corona put a stop to that,« Nils Landgren explains. »Then we decided we’d record at »Redhorn District« in Bad Meinberg, but nothing was working in Germany either. So what should we do. Give up? The Funk Unit? No chance! I asked my friend Björn Yttling if we could go to his Ingrid Studio in Stockholm, and he said »No problem.« A few days before the session, the Swedish authorities decided that no more than eight people could assemble indoors at once. -

The band have played and performed with international gypsy jazz artists such as Dorado Schmidt, Robin Nolan, Andreas Öberg, Jon Larsen & HCN, Gustav Lundgren, Basily, Paulus Schäfer, Angelo Debarre, Gary Potter, Biel Ballester, Mozes Rosenberg - and many others. Over the years Rêve Bohème have recorded in different line-ups and musical settings. ABSTRACT Title: FRENCH STEWARDSHIP OF JAZZ: THE CASE OF FRANCE MUSIQUE AND FRANCE CULTURE Roscoe Seldon Suddarth, Master of Arts, 2008 Directed By: Richard G. King, Associate Professor, Musicology, School of Music The French treat jazz as “high art,” as their state radio stations France Musique and France Culture demonstrate. Jazz came to France in World War I with the US army, and became fashionable in the 1920s—treated as exotic African- American folklore. However, when France developed its own jazz players, notably Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, jazz became accepted as a universal art. Two well-born Frenchmen, Hugues Panassié and Charles Delaunay, embraced jazz and propagated it through the Hot Club de France. After World War II, several highly educated commentators insured that jazz was taken seriously. French radio jazz gradually acquired the support of the French government. This thesis describes the major jazz programs of France Musique and France Culture, particularly the daily programs of Alain Gerber and Arnaud Merlin, and demonstrates how these programs display connoisseurship, erudition, thoroughness, critical insight, and dedication. France takes its “stewardship” of jazz seriously.
