Dan Gatchet, October 21, 2014 Chair Lynn Peterson Ashley Probart, Secretary of Transportation Executive Director Washington State Department of Transportation Olympia, WA 98504 Board Members Sheri Call Secretary Peterson: John Creighton On behalf of the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board, I would like to congratulate Johan Hellman the Washington State Department of Transportation on the completion of The Washington State Freight Mobility Plan. Pat Hulcey Geir-Eilif Kalhagen This multi-year process has been inclusive of the stakeholders representing freight in our state. As a result, it reflects the importance of freight movement and the need to invest in Michael Karnofski a freight system that will continue to support our state’s economy. Mark Knudsen The Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board served as the lead agency for the Lynn Peterson Washington State Freight Advisory Committee (WAFAC). Many of the WAFAC policy recommendations are reflected in this plan and demonstrate the importance of our two Robin Rettew agencies working together to support freight issues in Washington State. Tom Trulove I would also like to congratulate WSDOT for working with both Metropolitan and Regional Brian Ziegler Transportation Planning Organizations for taking a first step to map Washington State Freight Economic Corridors. As this continues to be refined, it will serve as a platform for future investment strategies and performance measures. Web Site www.fmsib.wa.gov As the plan notes, FMSIB and WSDOT collaboratively developed a new process to identify and inventory first and last mile connectors in Washington State. This inventory is a first of its kind. Although the Washington State Freight Mobility Plan is complete, we view this plan as a first step to guide future state freight investments. FMSIB is looking forward to a continued partnership with WSDOT as future Washington State freight mobility plans are updated. Sincerely, Dan Gatchet, Chair Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board cc: Barb Ivanov TABLE OF CONTENTS CHAPTER 1: STRATEGIC GOALS
