Student Leadership Activities by Jessie Warner

What is Student Leadership doing in the month of February?

We are selling Candy Grams for Valentines Day.

How much are they selling for? 25 cents for one & 5 for $1. We are looking for a charity to donate the money to.

What else are you working on? The student leaders are doing bullying education/awareness lessons to the 1st grade students this month as well and will be starting bullying power points during guided studies time too. Student Leadership Essay by Maddy Arand

Why Do I Want To Be On Student Leadership? I would like to be on Student Leadership because I like helping others. I would like to do more volunteer work and raise money for people and families in need. Also I want to do more things for people who aren’t thought about as much as others, and make our school a better place to be. There are a lot of students in our school who aren’t considered “popular” and I think all of those people should be treated just like the “popular” crowd. How Could I Make My School A More Positive Environment? I think I could make our school a more positive environment by keeping it clean. By having we students throw our garbage away in the trash and recycle things that should be, like papers and plastics. The janitors shouldn’t have to pick up our trash in the halls, bathrooms, and in the classrooms. That’s not their job, it’s ours! Another way I think I could make our school a more positive environment is by having everyone be- come friends at school, they don’t have to have sleepovers and be best friends outside of school, but having everyone be nice to each other and get along at school would make everyone happy! Yeah, we all make mis- takes, say and do things to people that we don’t mean, but I think that should change. I also think that we need to make our staff feel more appreciated. I don’t think it should matter if they are teachers or janitors they all deserve the same respect. Just a simple hello, or please and thank you goes a long way. What Are Some Ideas I Have For The Upcoming 2011-2012 School Year? Some ideas I have for the upcoming 2011- 2012 year are that we could tutor elementary kids after school, sponsor a road; meaning pick up garbage on a highway to help our environment, set up a booth at home football games to raffle items off, and set up a bake sale at junior high home athletics. How and Why Am I going to Accomplish Those Ideas? I am going to accomplish tutoring the elementary kids after school by taking time after school to go down to the elementary library and helping the kids that need it, because I would like them to be able to do their homework in a decent amount of time while knowing what they are supposed to be doing, so when they get to the junior high they understand what they learned in the past, and take it up to a higher level and succeed. I am going to accomplish sponsoring a road by going out onto a highway and picking up the garbage, because I would like to make our town and community a more clean and healthy place to live. I am going to accom- plish setting up a booth at the football game to raffle something off by donating my time to go to a home football game on a Friday night before the game starts and sell raffle tickets for items, because we as a Stu- dent Leader group could earn money from that to put towards our school. I am going to accomplish setting up a bake sale at a home junior high athletic by setting up a table before the game would start and have all of the Student Leaders make a baked good and set it on the table and donate my time to work at the table so we as a Student Leadership group could make more money for our school. What Are Some Examples From The Past? Some examples from the past are going to a teen conference at Highland (which I really recommend doing, because it was very fun and we all learned a ton), sell candy grams before the school day starts to raise mon- ey for our school, spring and winter clothing drives, canned food drives, make placemats for the elders in the nursing home, and educate the elementary kids about bullying and harassment. I hope I can be a part of the 2011-2012 Lena- Winslow Junior High Student Leadership group! I also hope my ideas are helpful, will be able to be used throughout the year!
