As reported in last weekend's bulletin, it was obvious on Good Friday that our Church roof is in need of APRIL 19 replacement. During the service, several buckets were in the sanctuary to catch the falling rain, including three SUNDAY that were placed on the sacred altar of Christ. The roof ENVELOPE $6,442.00 has been repaired over the years and now is at the end ONLINE $5,056.00 of its life. We are presently securing bids for the roofs. TOTAL $11,498.00 The roof replacements were part of our Living Stones Campaign goals and we will proceed with the project immediately. Dear St. Pius X Family and Friends,

It gives me great joy to announce that a new principal has been selected for St. Pius X for the 2020-2021 academic year. After careful review and prayerful consideration of applicants, the search committee came to the unanimous decision that Ms. Marisa Amann is the best person to lead St. Pius X.

Ms. Amann earned her Bachelor of Arts in English, Theology & Religious Studies from the University of San Diego in 2011; her Master of Arts in Special Education from Loyola Marymount University in 2013; and her Administrative Services Credential from the University of San Diego in 2017.

Ms. Amann has been the full-time Vice Principal at the School of the Madeleine in San Diego since 2017. Prior to becoming Vice Principal, Ms. Amann taught Middle School (6-8) English, Language & Arts (ELA) and 8th Religion at Our Lady of Talpa School in Los Angeles from 2011 – 2014; and again, at Stella Maris Academy in La Jolla from 2014 – 2017, when she and her husband moved to San Diego.

Thank you to Ms. Zena Lujan, Mr. Joseph Walker, Mr. David Siddons, Ms. Karen Koehler, Dr. Julie Cantillon, Ms. Leticia Oseguera, Mr. Matthew Cordes, Fr. Peter McGuine and Fr. Corey Tufford for serving on the search committee. They spent many hours going through résumés and conducting interviews. I am grateful for their hard work!

I want to reiterate my gratitude to Mr. John Turskey for his six years as Principal of St. Pius X. I know you will join me in wishing him the very best in his new endeavors.

Dear St. Pius X Community,

I am humbled and blessed to be your principal for the 2020-2021 school year and lead the school into its bright future. I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know the special community that I will soon call “home”. My husband, John, also a principal in the diocese, and my children, Siena (4) and Kolbe (1), are excited to meet you all as well. We are praying you are staying healthy during this time and hope you are also taking the time to enjoy your family.

I deeply connect with the philosophy of St. Pius X in educating the whole child and I believe that all students can successfully learn when provided with a positive environment. I plan to build upon the successful program already in place at St. Pius X while advancing the school and supporting whatever growth is needed. My end goal, with collaboration from parents, faculty, and staff, is to help all students achieve their highest potential and grow closer to God.

I am passionate about curriculum and instruction and believe that my ability to build rapport with teachers, while being a collaborative leader, will allow us to continue to grow in our professional learning together. I believe in having a growth mindset for all and that every decision we make as a school should be student centered.

Parents, I want you to know how integral you are to the success of our school and students. With you as our primary educators, I plan on working hand in hand with others in the community to continue to grow St. Pius X into a school where our students become the people God is calling them to be.

To our students, I cannot wait to see you all! I know this time of distance learning is different and difficult, but I hope that we are able to come together again in the fall. I am excited to learn with you and celebrate all of your accomplishments during the 2020-2021 school year.

I sincerely welcome your conversation and input and want to collaborate with each and every one of you as we keep our students the primary focus of our work. At the end of every day, I am firmly committed to student-centered learning that is rooted in our Catholic faith.
