Una lectura nacionalista del tema de las fronteras y los límites en la región platense ha significado su supervivencia en la conciencia histórica del ciudadano común –y de muchos historiadores- en asociación con términos tales como usurpación, traición y entrega, refiriéndose con esta adjetivación a los procesos de negociación y firma de tratados de límites cuyo resultado fijó la conformación territorial de los distintos estados en la región. El origen de esta tradicional asociación suele remontarse a la competencia entre las monarquías española y portuguesa en la formación de sus imperios coloniales por el control y la población de una “zona frontera”, la llamada “Banda Oriental”, que fue escenario de diversos procesos sociales de ocupación territorial y objeto de una conflictiva negociación política a través de multiplicidad de tratados. El estudio que se presenta avanza en la lectura de la representación gráfica de esa “zona frontera” en mapas antiguos, y su confrontación con otro tipo de fuentes, tales como los propios tratados, o el relato de los conflictos generados en la demarcación concreta de los límites en la larga duración. -

Presentación. Lingüística histórica y toponimia. La lingüística histórica- disciplina que estudia el cambio lingüístico- tiene como objeto investigar y describir cómo las lenguas cambian o mantienen su estructura en el curso del tiempo (Bynon: 1981). Siendo el cambio inherente a la lengua-las lenguas nunca están “hechas”, están en un permanente “hacerse”-, la sincronía de hoy refleja dichos cambios, muestra las sincronías del pasado. Uno de los cometidos de la lingüística histórica es, por lo tanto, buscar las huellas de ese pasado en el presente, las marcas de la diacronía en la sincronía. -

Papaj4, David B. Ritland5 & Jeffrey C. Oliver6 1234567890():,; Mimics should not exist without their models, yet often they do. In the system involving queen and viceroy butterflies, the viceroy is both mimic and co-model depending on the local abundance of the model, the queen. Here, we integrate population surveys, chemical ana- lyses, and predator behavior assays to demonstrate how mimics may persist in locations with low-model abundance. As the queen becomes less locally abundant, the viceroy becomes more chemically defended and unpalatable to predators. However, the observed changes in viceroy chemical defense and palatability are not attributable to differing host plant chemical defense profiles. Our results suggest that mimetic viceroy populations are maintained at localities of low-model abundance through an increase in their toxicity. Lepra subventosa var. hypothamnolica is genetically and chemically distinct from L. subventosa var. subventosa and a new name, Lepra pseudosubventosa Kukwa & Guzow-Krzemińska, is proposed due to the existence of Lepra hypothamnolica (Dib- ben) Lendemer & R.C. Harris. Pertusaria muricata, recently transferred to Lepra, is kept in the genus Pertusaria due to the highest similarity of ITS sequence with members of Pertusaria. -

Stefan Koerber Friesenstr. 11, 45476 Muelheim, Germany, [email protected] Since the beginning of the binominal nomenclature authors dedicate names of new species described by them to persons they want to honour, mostly to the collectors or donators of the specimens the new species is based on, to colleagues, or, in fewer cases, to family members. This paper aims to provide a list of these names used for freshwater fishes from Argentina. All listed species have been reported from localities in Argentina, some regardless the fact that by our actual knowledge their distribution in this country might be doubtful. Years of birth and death could be taken mainly from obituaries, whereas those of living persons or publicly unknown ones are hard to find and missing in some accounts. Although the real existence of some persons from ancient Greek mythology might not be proven they have been included here, while the names of indigenous tribes and spirits are not. If a species name does not refer to a first family name, cross references are provided. Current systematical stati were taken from the online version of Catalog of Fishes.
