FLORIDA ATLANTIC lorida Atlantic University was established by Dr. John Kelly President an act of the Florida Legislature in 1961 and opened its doors to students in 1964. In addition to Dr. Bret Danilowicz its original 850-acre campus in Boca Raton, the University has F Provost and Vice President campuses in Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter and for Academic Affairs Fort Pierce. Dr. Larry Faerman Interim Vice President for Student FAU’s ethnically diverse population includes more than 30,000 Affairs and Enrollment Management students and 1,000 full- and part-time faculty members. The University’s 10 colleges—the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts Dr. Daniel C. Flynn and Letters, the College of Business, the College of Education, Vice President for Research the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the Graduate College, the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, the Charles E. Mr. Peter Hull Vice President for Public Affairs Schmidt College of Medicine, the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and the Mr. David Kian College of Social Work and Criminal Justice—offer 95 bachelor’s, Vice President for Legal Affairs, 75 master’s, 3 specialist’s and 24 doctoral degrees. To date, General Counsel the University has awarded 211,450 degrees to more than 175,000 alumni. Ms. Stacy A. Volnick Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Chief Administrative Officer In December 1967, FAU was elected to regular membership in the Interim Vice President for Financial Affairs, Chief Financial Officer Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. At that time, the Commission on Higher Education of the Southern Association Mr. Brian White granted full accreditation to all of the University’s programs. In Vice President and accordance with Association regulations, this accreditation was Director of Athletics reaffirmed in 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2013. 2 UNIVERSITY resident PRESIDENT JOHN KELLY John Kelly was namedP the seventh president of Florida Atlantic University in January 2014, and quickly declared his intention to make FAU “America’s fastest-improving university.” The university has established a track record of relentless improvement under his transformational leadership, which includes doubling research expenditures, enrolling an all-time high number of National Merit Scholars, setting new records for private gifts to the FAU Foundation, increasing graduation and academic progress rates, and raising the profile of FAU’s athletics program. In 2020, for the first time in university history, FAU was ranked among the nation’s top public schools by U.S. News & World Report, landing at No. 140. In 2021, FAU moved up four spots to No. 136. President Kelly began his academic career in 1982 as an assistant professor at Texas A&M University. Three years later, he went to Clemson, rising through the ranks to become professor and department head by 1991. He was named vice president for public service and agriculture in 1997 and vice president for economic development in 2010. Active on the national level, President Kelly has served on the boards of the Administrative Heads Section of the National Association of State Universities and Land-grant Colleges (now the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities) and the American Distance Education Consortium. His leadership excellence has been recognized with the South Florida Business Journal’s Ultimate CEO Award, Sun Sentinel’s Excalibur Award for Large Business Leader of the Year in Palm Beach County and the Clemson University Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award. He also was named one of Florida Trend’s “500 Most Influential Business Leaders.” President Kelly was raised in South Carolina. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Clemson and both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
