Elanya Bairefoot Create a program to offer free computer science activities Brevard County Libraries for K – 12 patrons at the Eau Gallie Public Library. Clifton Barefoot Assess viability of a centralized phone system for the Palm Palm Beach County Library System Beach County Library System. Allie Brazis Create a library mascot and develop a strategic plan for Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library using the mascot to promote the library. Caroline Rosado Implement the Little Free Library (LFL) movement in Brevard County Library System Brevard County as an extension service of public libraries. Faithe Ruiz Develop READ Diversely!, a campaign to promote College of Central Florida multicultural awareness and encourage diverse teaching and learning experiences through books, readers’ advisory and curricular support. Winter Park Public Library Dennis Smith Create an online portal for the collection of documents, University of Miami processes and examples to assist access services/circulation department. Alia Spencer Explore opportunities for involvement in re-entry services to Palm Beach County Library System previously incarcerated individuals and provide recommendations for future involvement in re-entry efforts in Palm Beach County. Christina Stone Develop a body of research on which the Palm Beach Palm Beach County Library System County Library System 50th anniversary planning committee may base activities corresponding to, and in celebration of, that major milestone. Joshua Stone Use most recent census data to identify unique non-English Palm Beach County Library System languages in the county in order to build small collections in the branches that serve those communities. Stephanie Tyson Create an educator card for our system. Market the new Columbia County Public Library card and our online databases to the teachers in the county. Julie Wald Redesign the public spaces to accommodate current and St. Johns County Public Library System future needs as our community grows. Stephanie Weiss Develop a plan and lead a team of instruction librarians in University of North Florida building five new learning objects (or mini-modules) that teach library/research skills. Collen Whittall Build a nontraditional borrowing collection of telescopes to Maitland Public Library support STEM-based programming such as Astronomy Week. Amanda Woolf Provide more consistent collaboration and scheduling Palm Beach County Library System between social service agencies and the Palm Beach County Library System to bring those agencies' services and assistance to the libraries. .

The 1993 National Adult Literacy Survey estimated that one on four Floridians lack fundamental literacy skills. Florida is fortunate to have a wide selection of adult education and literacy programs that provide free or low cost instructional services. Public libraries, community based literacy organizations, public schools, faith based organizations and community colleges work together to provide a continuum of services that range from reading and English language tutoring to classes and on-line adult high school and GED instruction. Libraries and library based literacy programs have been an important partner in this educational system, often serving as a catalyst in establishing literacy programs and support services in underserved communities. All libraries in Florida support literacy efforts, and they provide direct services in thirty of Florida's 67 counties. Ninety-three per cent of them provide one-to-one tutoring. Eighty-nine percent provide small group instruction, and eighty-nine per cent use volunteers for instruction. Seventy per-cent use computers for instruction. This publication profiles five library based literacy programs that have established successful instructional initiatives in different program areas. 1.
