….promoting societies and orchid growing... So here are the final results. Phew!!! Please note that all judging was done ‘blind’ and none of the judges knew who owned which plant or which society, if any, the owners belonged to. The only one who had the codes was me, not even Chris knew until all the results were tabulated, and believe me, the results have been double and trebled checked. Spellings and names of plants are shown as they were entered, and synonyms were accepted for older plant names. There are some very worthy winners, and the judges did a great job in picking out some beautiful plants. Not an easy task to do from photographs and they certainly stuck to their brief of judging the plant and not the best photograph. So a big ‘thank you’ to all the judges who took part and for getting their votes in quickly and doing such a great job. The best society was awarded on the number of points won by members entering plants—here, Darlington was a clear winner, (that Chris Tyrie DID help a little bit there!!) But only one point separated 2nd and 3rd places. Scoring was for the class results only - 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for HC We all learned a lot of lessons from this - but its amazing what it can be possible to pull off if people work together. And in this instance I think everyone did . This certainly shows that orchid growing and interest in orchids are still alive and well and that orchid growers are more than willing (and capable) to adapt to difficult circumstances in order to show off and share their plants. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!
