Bioinformatics QA
As a Bioinformatics Quality Assurance Specialist, the successful candidate will report to the Director of Informatics. The successful candidate will perform software quality assurance activities ESAC clients at the National Institutes of Health and other scientific organizations. The position will either be located at client sites (DC metro area) or at our ESAC offices in Rockville MD.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Serve as independent software quality assurance staff on new and existing projects for ESAC clients. 2. Be a member of team building software applications for life sciences. 3. Write test cases to exercise all aspects of multiple systems in development. 4. Design, document and execute test automation, provide reporting and metrics for constant improvement including creating scripts, test sequences etc to ensure proper coverage.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. .B.S. or M.S. or equivalent degree with combined education and experience in bioinformatics. Applicants with education background in bioinformatics or related topics (e.g. mathematics and computer science/engineering) plus significant combined education and experience in statistics will also be considered. 2. Understanding of modern software QA theory, practice and methodology 3. 0-5 years of software testing experience. 4. Strong desire to continually improve process 5. Able to effectively organize and prioritize multiple tasks 6. Knowledge of Unix/Linux, Windows, Scripting (Perl etc) 7. Experience with relational databases like Oracle, MySQL, etc.. 8. Independent problem solver that enjoys collaborative research 9. Excellent communication and people skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. degree in science, engineering or statistics with combined education and experience in bioinformatics. 2. Experience in a user-centric and result-oriented setup, e.g. core facility or helpdesk. 3. Formal coursework or advanced training in one or more of the following: biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, software engineering. 4. Knowledge in scientific and statistical software development, e.g. implementation of statistical tests and computing algorithms using a mainstream programming language.
